Seems like all they have done is legalized theft by wapol.
They dont own the cars so they shouldn't be able to sell them.

that's what i was thinking! 99% of those cars a buckets! but i guess that's why they havent been collected, not worth it........ doesnt look like any bargains there.

Gather up a few hundred bucks with some mates and purchase your own private fleet of bunky shitters for a rally night out in the pines?

well if your car is there, you could probably buy it back cheaper from the auction than paying the impound fee.

thats because most of them are from unlic drivers, not 'hoon' offences

i know at the police unclaimed auctions some have been nicked, and insurance has been claimed before the vehicle has been recovered, these could have come from something like that perhaps?

This happens in Collie all the time, dumped cars owners are contacted about removal, if this doesnt happen they are impounded at the council and if not collected they go for "tender".

Can pick up a bush basher of any sort for -$100.

problem is the possible reserve on items might be the impound cost, wouldnt that be rediculus

lol at epic backfire from WA police

i dont know a soul that would go out and pay 1.5k or thereabouts for a EA falcon driven by some old coon with no licence

Will all be scrapped, wapol will pick up the bill for towing + storage and law will get quashed

These cars are usually impounded for other reasons than hooning and such.

I don't see what is so wrong by this?

The rightful owners would have been notified several times over and over...

Look at the cars, the majority are clearly worth less than the cost of towing/storage fees and the Government has to foot the bill - a cost that gets passed onto us tax payers.

Yes - the whole confiscation thing was not thought through properly. In particular the lack and cost of storage - but you get what you deserve for driving without a licence and or doing something stupid.

Got mum to go to this today on my behalf.

Most expensive car sold was an apparently newish good condition Elantra, sold for $1000 before the auction bloke acknowledged her (higher) bid :(

Most cars there were pretty farked, the Excel I saw in the catalogue and was interested in had two door handles, bits missing from the dash & mouldy interior. Sold for $150 like most of the other buckets there...

Everything there was unlicenced, so I didn't end up with anything because that $1000 Elantra was the only thing she was pretty sure would pass the pits without problems.

Sounds like they would have probably all been from unlicenced drivers, all shitters and most arse dragger's as well...

heard something on the radio bout it, 3 cars sold for $50

had to laugh, some cop was crapping on that the people who left these cars have a debt that will be put against them..

good luck getting that one paid..

There is something in the legislation apparently that allows the WA Police to register the costs involved against the owner with Fines Enforcement.

They'll get their licence suspened until they pay Fines Enforcement. But if they're unlicenced/unregistered drivers anyway I doubt they'll care.
