Describe said problems as we might know of a simple solution.

cannot pair with iphone even when it's all good with itunes and it's got the latest software.
it tells me to put it into recovery mode,i do,and then it searches for the iphone for 10 years and never finds it,just constantly searches for it.

OK if I can jailbreak my iPhone, anyone can trust me!

Read the link and download the programs they tell you to, it has everything you need including links to the programs you will need.
Do it when you have time to sit down and concentrate on it though, it's not the sort of thing you can leave and come back to.

Also make sure that you've upgraded your software to version 3.0.1 before doing this

If your computer doesnt recognise your phone at all when you plug it in you need to go to itunes program files and delete the LOCKDOWN folder.

ok,i'm kind of lost here.

it says
First and foremost make sure your iPhone is updated to the 3.0 firmware. If you’re not yet running 3.0, update via iTunes.

i think your problem is that u r using the old version of redsnow.

o.8 is what i used with my iphone 3gs updated to 3.01 and i used the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw to put in to red snow when prompted.

I had the exact same problem, untill went from 3.0.1 back to 3.0, then redsnow worked fine. Jailbroke the phone, then do the update again.

Hrmm the problem appears to lie with the IPSW Restore files you have saved there.

When you go to the link I posted and click the bottom link for the "iPhone OS 3.0", this should come up...

Notice how the name is iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.zip, where as the bottom one that you have is iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.zip

When I did it, I just saved both Redsnow and the IPSW file to the desktop so they were easy to access and they were the only one's there.
If that's not the problem, then I'm stuck

Yep, there's your problem!
You need to download the 3.0 ipsw file and select that as 'your current firmware' in redsnow, even though your actual current firmware is 3.0.1
That's the trick mate :)
