Advise for new camera

Hi guys

Just wondering what the best bang for buck hand held camera is these days?

are the Panasonic Lumix ones any good?
ive always liked sony or is there something better out there for a reasonable price?

any help would be appreciated.

depends what you are after, a teeny one for pocket snaps, something more serious, or very serious

super impressed with my canon powershot SX100 (now the SX110 is the new model I think), its no DSLR but hugely cheaper.

decent quality, good configurability if you want to play with settings, good zoom and takes some good pics.

That camera looks cool!

But i think id need a smaller one. its actually for my girlfriend so i guess its main use will be facebook photos etc. Something that can be put in a bag.

Maby it might be better looking for something in a certain price range? I think she wants to spend about 300 bucks.

The Pentax ones are really good value and take good pics but make sure you test it out at the shop before you buy it. My one (couple of years old now) has this massive touchscreen on the back and is 7MP but was still only 400ish back then - BUT its a bit slow on responding when you want to take a pic.. it sometimes sits there for a second or so after you press the shutter. Doesnt sound like much but when you are trying to capture a drunken moment of revelry its really nice to have that point and click

I am sh*t at taking pics but cam manages to deliver.
