Hi All,

I'm replacing my Bosch 044 with a Walbro GSS342 pump.

The Bosch 044 is supported by an external relay and associated wiring, to provide it with a constant 12 volts.

The stock fuel pump is managed by a factory fitted relay and controller which steps the voltage up and down depending on requirements, to reduce noise and wear.

Most Walbro's are installed using this stock arrangement, as opposed to the 044 which needs the external 12 volt source to prevent overloading the fuel pump controller.

If I swap the pumps, will the constant 12 volts damage the Walbro?

Any ideas?

I think most walbro failures are due to not actually having a constant 12 volts, although if you put a multimeter on them most will be getting closer to 13-14 volts.
Why the downgrade?
And yes I will argue a bosch over a Walbro anyday.

most of the advertised flow rates are given at ~14v, i'd recommend rewiring any pump for a constant voltage via a relay

Baller, no probs at all .. , as Brett mentioned that its more like the 13+ volts region, and no it wont be a problem, ive done tripple pump setups this way without a problem in the past.

The pumps ability to flow is directly relevant to the max voltage it recieves at the needed amperage.
Most 12v nominal gear will run up to a max of 15.5-16v, so you've got plenty of headroom before you have to worry about over volting
