View Full Version : [drag] 02 September - Motorplex WAW Opening season

Dzenci
30-08-2009, 03:00 PM
Since we are getting into spring season of 09 and the motorplex is opening for the season I was wondering who is thinking of taking their cars down the drags in the first couple weeks or so?
I thought it would be a good idea to put down a list of Antlag members for a nice wednesday evening and go down together and get some good runs!

There will be cold nights still for a while which is a bonus for FI cars and non but maybe not too good for the track temperature unless you burn the shit out of your tires.lol.

The weather is looking a bit rough for the first opening wednesday and it would be really packed if its on.

Cheers
Dzenad

I reckon we could get some really nice cars if people were keen.

Maybe towards end of Oct as it warms up ?

Would be great to see some more people trying out Fast Fridays and even national opens this season.

old boy reakons it broke just after the snake pit on the first run of all things. no drive in any gear but it wont rock in park. he did a 2.9 - 60" and had 93mph at the 660. So should be a low 11 second run for sure with some sticky tyres.

bummer too coz the gearbox was just rebuilt with strengthened parts the other week to withstand 450rwhp and with "only" 350rwhp gonna be a warranty job for the trans builder for sure.

hopefully be nice and cold when i get back next week so i can take my ve down for a 11 too.

keen to get down there more often this year, hopefully some drag radials to push into the 13's

We can have a running comp for antilags slowest cars!!! (in a straight line of course...)

NOTE TO SELF: must get proper LSD and some sticky rubber...

And on that note, to those of you out there running R-comps down there. Is there really that much advantage running them compared to wide sticky street rubber? say 245/40/18 Advan AO48 VS 285/30/19 Advan V103's

(read: I'm cheap and dont wanna splash out for both R-comps and drag radials)

wadragracing
02-09-2009, 07:51 PM
R-Comps won't make a hell of a lot of difference on the strip. May even slow you down (do they have a stiffer sidewall?)

Brockas
02-09-2009, 08:04 PM
Stiffer sidewall, but in my experience still hook up better in a straight line than street tyres.

Not worth buying a set for the drags though, only for the track.

Lonewolf
02-09-2009, 08:09 PM
yes they have a stiffer sidewall, but the softer compound can compensate for that a bit.
in my experience your better off with street tyres.

hoping with drag radials I can get down to a 2-2.2 60'

Deke
02-09-2009, 08:43 PM
went down , cold as fuck. Seen brockas do 1 run which you got no traction what so ever off the line which sucks ,also seen ssick and the silver aristo running high - mid 11's and also that gold f6 from here was running mid 11's aswell , not a big crowd either i thought there would be alot more people.

S133LTR

compound doesnt help when your bouncing down the track on r-comps because of the sidewall.

I've been hearing the same rubbish all week from people on forums about the track condition for this week, but it was the best i've ever run on at a WAW. Fresh surface and a fresh coat of VHT.
I ran street tyres & had no wheelspin off the line (no stall obviously).

Massive 3rd gear burnout + shit track = great heat in slicks but wheel spinn in first and skating second.

Sorry Dean but the track might have been good for street tyres but for slicks, its the worst i have seen.

You guys do realise a cold track reduces the effectiveness of VHT right?
Big power producing air + cold track = more traction difficulties than normal, not too hard to figure out.

R comp purchase is being made with Barbs in mind, but I figured if they helped with launching, due to the softer compound, I'd give them a run there as well.

May even have to do a couple runs, on the same night, swapping tyres, with the same launch (well as close as possible) and see the difference between the 2. Would be a good little experiment methinks.

Been to a few 'competitive' meets & i know what a prepped track is like. Last night was very good for a WAW & anyone who says otherwise is just making excuses :p
If i can resist going down & running another 10 for long enough i'll enter in the first meet of the season. Would love to have a crack @ some competitive racing.

haha cheers, but nar, Simon needed 630rwhp to run 10.91 @ 131mph in his 32 GTR. You really have to be careful in 3rd gear on a stock gearbox, so you can't smash gears. Mine's almost 100hp short of Simons, so pretty happy with mid 120's.
May put some stock suspension in it and go down if I get motivation, but to be honest drag racing isn't really my thing. Much rather circuit.

On X-Speed dyno. As I was saying, at those power levels the standard gearboxes are like glass, so its hard to really get the best out of the cars at the plex without a dogbox.

These GT-R's aren't that light, mine with the cage weighs in at 1580kgs.

Would be really good to book out a lane one time for Antilag on a WAW.

I reckon we could get some really nice cars if people were keen.

Maybe towards end of Oct as it warms up ?

it would be a great idea, ive done it twice for the rota heads, first time not bad, just over 20 turned up, but second time we had a even bigger turn out, but the track does not reserve your positions or lane if other people get there first, its a first in best dressed situation,
We got 1 car in before the number cut off limit for the night was announced, so shitloads of guys were turned away, some even had the arvo off from work to organise car trailers to be there, but in the end wombat Wednesdays are just a first come first serve situation.
Trust me when i say it makes me feal like a pingpingpingping for organising it and the guys get no return for their efforts, so im never organising a lane on wombats again, next will be a track day for sure

What i would highly suggest is hiring the track for a day all to ourselves, then any car can run, unlike wombat wed that has standards and limits to what can be run on the night.
Last i knew it was roughly 4g ish to hire the track, now get a good turnout like one of the antilag cruise turnouts and its gonna be cheap as chips fellas.
Or even cap it to 50 cars , thats 80 bucks a person to spank the track all day with no cues or massive waiting down time:cool:

Turbo2.6L
07-09-2009, 02:38 PM
Private days are usually limited to 12 cars, or sometimes 20.
More cars means you need both lanes & more people to supervise. This means more money...
Also has tobe done through the week & during the day wor else costs double :(
Would be keen on private day though, even if we have to split the $5k between just 20 people!

agree heaps, they are notoriously under numbered events, but the thing i hear that's the biggest whinge is that its in the middle of summer and in the middle of the day, they need a night event to make compact days explode , one day a night event will happen and that's the day that the motorplex will reap the rewards of hosting it at night time, it will become a profit instead of a loss , in all aspects of winnings, money/crowds/competitors/times/ and just a bigger spectacle with most of the compact cars belching flames out their ass holes :eek2:
Either way ill suport what comes along, but it would be nice to see more compacts at regular meets this year, it would be good to have regular compact classes in action to create a field to race in, then the exposure can only bring more acceptance :)
