I live in Perth, but i know Singapore better, and actually love its setup. They dont piss about and they do things with common sence most of the time.

Last night im talking to a mate in SG and we get on topic of racetracks, and i could swear a customer at a mates perf part shop said to me that they were in negotiations to build a world class venue. I had a quick look and found this.

http://www.motogpsingapore.com/news/Singapore_racing_vision.shtml
http://www.wildsingapore.com/news/20070910/071027-3.htm

What baffles me is the quote that was said in this....

"The government has identified the motor sports industry as a growth industry that will contribute to sports development and the economy in Singapore," says Vivian Balakrishnan, the minister for community development, youth and sports. "In our discussions with the private sector, industry players shared that the development of a permanent racetrack is critical for us to develop a comprehensive motor sports industry."

Considering Australia has racers in many forms of motorsport, some at the peak of it, Stoner in MotoGP, Webber in F1, Ambrose in NASCAR and our own A1 GP team. Yet our Govt's (Apart from Geoff Kennet) do nothing, and actually distance themselves from anything that isnt footy or crikit.

Another win for a non non resource laiden muddy island, another loose for Ausfailia.

probably something to do with political correctness, nanny state, idiot politicians, tt, aca, scared old people, sacred sites, pollution, tall poppy syndrome, and the green party.

Thing is you dont get caught, because Police dont just wander around looking for trouble like Perth trafiic popo. They also have N/A lancers, so they dont pursue. Even if you do get caught you pay the fine. Fine is ok i think by most ... you play up, you gotta pay.

But its not about street racing or hoons, its about the fact that Singapores automotive motorsport is about 1/20th if not less than ours, yet they WANT to support the industry, sport and get people to a built track.

Now consider this. Singapore is around 40kms wide. Compare that to WA's vast open spaces ... it just doesnt make sence.

if you want to race, you drive to johor and jump on the racetrack there which is cheap and accessable. dont see why you would race on the roads in singapore.. also there is like a handfull of traffic police on the whole island. I usually see 1 or 2 a week on motorcycles. (they are different to regular police)

Thats incorrect. Less accidents, more congested roadways, smoother flowing traffic than here.

I stood along the balcony of the pool at Crown at Orchard, cnr of Orchard and Bideford, and for about 2 hours, watched the traffic, and cars, and thought why is it that Asians have such a bad rep / stereotype here for being bad drivers, but they are ok there ?.

After a while it makes sence, but you have to look closely. They rarely indicate, because drivers look for car "language / attitude", this is how racers predict a pass on a bike or a car. You dont use indicators, but they know. A cab will be half way infront of another car and slowly merge into his lane, as he will do it to someone else soon and get the same in return.

Here ?. Some redneck asshole firstly stands on the horn, then he abuses, and then gets out to road rage on you. There is no courtesy here, no understanding of car language, and why we cant even merge on the fwy. You do not see people flipping off other drivers, abuse, rage or anything simmilar. I love driving there.

They all work together and drive in common sence. Couple the fact they do proper driving ed on Old Changi Rd at the driving complex with instructors located on many points around the courses, constantly picking up faults and correcting the drivers and riders.

They can drive. Its WE here that cant drive for shit, so when one of them get here, they stand out, hence labeled as bad Asian drivers. So so incorrect.

Then you go to KL, and the pace picks up another 200%.

u wouldnt want to be on a motorbike over there given that the drivers are absolutely shocking. people whinge about right hand hogs in perth and merging technique, wonder what u would think if u had some impatient taxi just lane splitting as if they were a motorbike.

we were in a taxi that lane split to other cars on the 4? lane road from the airport to the city then cut off a dude on a scooter to make the turn off.

spot on.

but dude you cant compare to singapore to perth, they are in a completely different mindset, as you said its controlled chaos, there is little accidents.

As for the hoon laws, if you have the cash to go racing OR have a modified/supercar there, you wont have a problem with the law.

Completely different tactics used. and not comparable. They come to perth and drive like they do there, and you wonder why they get cleaned up continuosly. Saf you need to get out of your comfort zone and go to, say.... jakarta, china or russia. that will throw your perspective into a whole new realm

Have to disagree on the bad asians drivers being a bad call. Ive seen some asian drivers do some fucking stupid things like go the wrong way around a roundabout, take 10 mins to park in a simple carpark bay, drive along doing 20kph under the limit for no logical reason, pull straight out in front of me in broad daylight without even looking.... the list goes on.

Not saying they are all bad drivers, hell most West Australian drivers are fucking idiots, but they certainly do represent in the idiot driver category.
