hey guys, cheers in advance for any info

my car bottomed out goin ova a absolutely rediculous speed hump that i approached at about 5kmh behind the Melville Shell station, anyway, shook my car up bulk, i get out to have a look at the bump and am like "what the fuck is that shit?!?!?!?!" , it might as well have been some fucken WW2 Defense wall, wasn't too happy bout it, get back in my car, start driven down the street look down at the speedo lookin to expect about 45km but no, straight up nothin. then my mates pissed themselves laughin the fucken gay pingpingpingpings.

soo, i was wondering, since everything else on my dashboard works, everything except the Speedo and tachometer, im assuming that a plug or similar has come loose from the massive jolt that bullshit berlin wall put my car through. does that sound reasonable or do you guys think ive broken somethin?

if u guys have any ideas or know of a way too fix it, any input would be greatly appreciated, cheers in advance

Jim

P.S, drove past the scene of the crime yesterday and saw that they had work being done in that side street, yeh cheers guys, good timing too fix that shit up, fucken weak! :flipa:

Similar thing happened to me... I just had my exhaust patched up, went to the servo to get money out to pay dad for the oil change he did at the same time... Fucking speed bumps in the Champion drive shops ripped the bracket off the new section and trashed it.

My car isn't really low, it's well within legal spec, and I hit the bump a the same speed a lowered fully kitted skyline takes most bumps.

Both my minis sustained similar damage on those bumps...

Why the fuck do people build speed bumps that damage anything bar SUVs, don't you think that might deter people from shopping there??

Maybe you ripped out the speedo cable somehow?

Yeh, was thinking something like that eh, i'll do a thorough inspection 2morrow, i just didn't think there was any exposed electronics like cables on the undercarrage, will check it out, cheers for the advice

Many cars dont have speedo cable, they have electronic senders that send a signal to the dash cluster....not sure about a 1987 Celica, but check that you havent torn out the electronic sender unit, which is normally on the gearbox casing somewhere.

cheers for the advice so far, much appreciated.

checked for cable/plastic casing, anything that might be related to electronics and found nothing to indicate damage or anything, too tell u the truth i have no idea what im supposed to be looking for, i might post my query on a toyota specialty forum (Toyotanation.com is usually pretty solid with its info) and see what they have to offer.

cheers
Jim

if i had to guess i'd say an 87 celica would have a mechanical speedo cable.

your speedo cable could have snapped???might pay to take the dash apart n check to see if it is your cable... put your car on jacks once dash is apart and speedo apart.. then put it in drive and see if the speedo cable is driving..
