Thought id post up some details of my legnum now its looking a bit better. Its a 1998 manual VR4 Legnum in pearl white. Was in pretty good condition when i bought it but had some richness issues caused by the maf sensor not liking the pod filter and bov. Had the following goodies when i bought it:
3inch HKS exhaust with superdragger muffler
BLITZ pod filter
BLITZ BOV
Half a HKS boost controller, not working.
Tanabe coilovers.
16x7inch wheels with dunlop direzzas.

Only thing was there was problem with almost all of them so ended up changing them.

Heres a few photos from when i first picked it up.

http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt304/millzy_88/n511925016_1282676_211.jpg
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt304/millzy_88/n511925016_1282675_9940.jpg

Since then its been slowly transforming into what i want it to be. Heres a quick list of things ive changed.
Blitz pod replaced with stock airbox and snorkel with k&n filter.
Blitz BOV replaced with stock plumb back system.
Right engine mount insert replaced with prothane polyeurathane insert.
RDA slotted rotors installed as stock discs were warped badly.
Front number plate was raised to remove the jap gap.
Autometer 20psi boost gauge which matches gauge cluster.
HKS evc 4 boost controller installed set to 10.3psi low and 13.2 psi high.
Magnaflow muffler installed to replace the destroyed superdragger, thanks compliance.
Front coilovers lowered to level the front with the rear, think it was raised for compliance.
18 inch bronze volk racing te37's put on.

On a limited budget being a student so no crazy power goals here, just a quick daily which is a little different.

And here are a few photos of the car as it is now. Photos not taken by me are courtesy of either Clinton Wang, Levi Buzholic or Harry Fisher.

Hopefully new evo 9 sports organic clutch should be coming soon as well as a bit of panel beating on the doors to straighten them out a bit.
Hoping to go further after this but havent thought about what ill do first yet so still in the air on that one but will keep modifying bit by bit thats for sure.
Hope you like it.

good thing you got a manual.. the auto's love shitting the seals, and just generally dieing in the ass (like mine did)
the manual also pisses all over the auto... i had a auto super vr-4, rhys had a auto we converted to manual, both had exact same exhaust, boost controller, etc.. and his manual hosed mine every time.

Looks great, the wheels really top it off.

How do these thing handle? Heavy?

millzy_88
03-08-2009, 10:31 PM
Thanks guys, they weigh roughly 1500kg, probably just over depending on options and the handling is good, being 4wd with ayc and the coilovers its pretty much point and go.
The brakes could be better but with upgraded pads and rotors that improves heaps.

Saw this at Caro shopping centre a few weeks back. Wet myself a little when I saw it.

Amazing looking car. If you ever feel like swapping rims I'm sure my meisters would look sweet on it :P

get down to the drags and run a 12 dude, make the guys on ozvr4 emo. Very nice and factory manual too, dont be shy on the box they LOVE limiter launches ;)

millzy_88
04-08-2009, 09:57 AM
Limiter launch would probably finish my clutch off completely lol, but once i get the new clutch ill probably be taking it to the drags to see what its made of. Dont think it will quite crack a 12 though, although if your old car is anything to go by Rhys it just might lol.

Rhys
04-08-2009, 10:00 AM
It will do it dude, just need to launch above 4500 like i was, but yeh clutch job = FAIL

millzy_88
04-08-2009, 10:13 AM
Yeah it would appear that job is a pain in the ass, thinking of outsourcing to rpw but then thats a pain in the wallet. Dont know what ill do yet but definately getting done one way or another cos mine in f**ked.

Rhys
04-08-2009, 10:15 AM
RPW = FAIL. Speak to Sean at Allstar, its a similar job to an evo and they do clutch changes on them all the time. Can also speak to him about flashing your ECU as they managed to read mine and crack it so it can be re-written

Sweet, ill have to give them a call man. Cheers

Porn Legnum Millzy!

-Rhys did removing your interior improve performance, or just make it noisey?

millzy_88

After taking Rhys' advice and going with Allstar i now have an evo 7/8/9exedy sports tuff organic clutch which is a bit more capable than the previous one. Had a few issues with the clutch itself at first but it all worked out after it bedded in. So will hopefully be going back down the drags to see what shes really got in the next few weeks. After achieving a 13.7 with a 3000rpm slow release of the clutch i think i should be able to lower that a bit with a 5500rpm proper launch.

limiter launch!!! :D

my auto ran a 13.7 (would only stall to 3000rpm), Rhys' manaul did 13.05 with a pansy ass ~4500rpm launch. :P

25-01-2010, 12:30 PM
Maybe i should get Rhys to drive it lol. Im pretty sure no one has broken his vr4 quarter mile record yet. But now im confident the clutch should hold ill be trying some heavy launchs though dont worry.

must be a WA thing.. none of the east coast guys seem to match either of our times, and they were both pretty much stock cars.... boost and exhaust only, no fmic, pod, tune, etc..

what mods has yours got, just exhaust and boost?

a high 12 is definately possible. Rhys' times were going down, but then he didnt have any more runs

millzy_88
25-01-2010, 12:39 PM
Yeah last time i went cat back zorst, 13.3psi, and k&n panel.
Now thinking of going up to 14psi, HD clutch and polyurathane engine mounts. Im trying to find a cool night to go down cos that should help a little bit.

But i agree its strange how the east coast guys do seem slower and with more mods sometimes to.

mitchy
25-01-2010, 12:41 PM
should be good to go then..
you just have to nail the launch with these things, cause they get off the line pretty bloody well, they just die in the ass over ~120km/h when the tiny turbo rear housings become a big restriction in making power.

millzy_88
25-01-2010, 12:46 PM
Yeah, the turbos really are the downfall with these cars. Ill be trying changing gear at like 6k this time as well cos i made the mistake of revving it out through the gears last time which apparently isnt the best option which makes good sense given the tiny turbs. Ill keep this updated once i have results, hopefully after all this talking it up it doesnt dissapoint now lol

Definitely one of the nicest/cleanest Legnums around Matt.

...just needs some AWD Skid pics/vids. Go!

25-01-2010, 09:23 PM
Yeah nah. To easily broken and then too expensive to fix. Still up for drags, im thinking next week providing the weather is good.

mitchy
25-01-2010, 09:32 PM
pfft! they love getting all crossed up!

just dont sit on full lock doing heli's otherwise you'll kill the power steering, apart from that they are pretty good at multiple lane power slides. :P

Well i went down to the drags again last night and managed to pull a best of 13.303@101.92mph with the aid of some fairly heavy launches. I dont think my car is capable of any better with its current power as that run felt more or less perfect.

Dont think my rear diff liked the heavy launches either, its whining at me today. Might be time to find a new one i think lol.

Seen this down there last night & was hoping to see a 12!
Needs more boost & interior out to beat Rhys' time :D

TJ
04-02-2010, 09:22 AM
Winding more boost in will do nothing on the standard turbos.

Turbo2.6L
04-02-2010, 09:29 AM
Needs 35r, more boost & interior left in then

millzy_88
04-02-2010, 09:29 AM
Yeah im afraid the interior was mostly stripped and boost was as high as the stock turbos would safely allow, boost drops off like f**k in the top end though. Maybe more support/breathing mods could see me 12's though, who knows.

mitchy
04-02-2010, 09:31 AM
stock turbos are steel wheeled, so can run close to 20psi apparently...

will take about 14/15psi before stock ecu boost cut kicks in though.
DEFINATELY better than the factory 7psi the pre-facelifts run.

mine went from 14.2 stock, to 13.7 with just boost increase, and that was with a gearbox that imploded on the 3rd run.

there isn't much you can do about boost dropping off unfortunately. :(

the downside to tiny turbos that spool up pretty quickly, is that over say ~5000rpm the tiny rear housings on them become a massive restriction.

for comparisons sake, the intake on the turbo is about the size of a 50c piece.

syther
04-02-2010, 08:43 PM
its abit bigger then a 50c. but unfortuantly not much :(

millzy_88
04-02-2010, 11:14 PM
I meant increase power rather than get rid of the boost drop :p . I can probably squeeze a fair bit more out of it with the stock turbos still in place. Which means i will still be changing gear at 6000rpm for a while to come. Might just clinche a 12 though with said power gains though...

Rhys
05-02-2010, 12:18 AM
Just do a TD04 upgrade, much much cheaper.

Give me the keys, ill get a 12 :p. No need to launch high, i only launched mine at like 4500rpm

Bit of an update on the old wagon.
Bought some new rims to try and give it a bit more stance: Bronze 18x9.5 +30 Work Emotion XT7's with 225/40 R18 Toyo Proxes 4's.
Took a good 10/15mm flare front and back to get them sitting how i wanted them and copious amounts of slammage (needed new coilies) but the finished product makes all the pissing around worth it in my opinion. Also deleted the foglights and chucked in an intercooler kit to make it more ballin'. Anyway photos:

Its one of the X3E motorsports kits that Ivan sells. I wasn't impressed with it as it didn't fit properly. Took a bit of modification but now its all hooked up properly it works great.
