Im looking at getting a 701sdx for travel and basically net use, email and document stuff, I can use my hard drive for PC as external so no probs there.
Now what issues would I endounter with it?
I have pre paid broadband which dials like a modem so Im wondering if thats an issue as well?
Cheers

With this particular model it runs Linux as the OS instead of Windows, so you will need to become familiar with that part I guess as everything is obviously different. Should be good though, I just ordered a eeepc 1000he for the same reason, hell handy and good for travelling.

Questions remain to answer this question.
Is the pre-paid broadband, a wireless 3g connection?
or is the pre-paid broadband, connected through your home phone line?
If it is 3g. You won't encounter difficulties apart from installing the device onto a linux OS, you'll have to find specific drivers.
If it's connected to your home phone line, you won't be able to use that account anywhere else, as broadband connections like that are specific to the physical phone line, not the number/computer/modem/person. i.e you can't take it everywhere with you.

I'd say its wireless broadband Glen.
Brett - I'd probably spring the extra for Windows. DELL also make a unit like the eee PC.

Also have a 900HA at home. Mint lil 'puter! absolutely nothing wrong with em except 8.9" screen. Cheap, easy, plug and play.
Highly recommend it.

MSI Wind, do it.
Amen !
I use the wind at work and now has travelled across the USA and Europe with me.
You will find the 701 keyboard will give you the sh*tz so much you wont use it.

roughly how long do the batteries on these things last compared to their advertised time.
im guessing the claimed battery life is standby/not getting used?

they quote pretty much best case scenario.
With some good power management (eg dimming screen, disabling wireless etc) you can get pretty close under normal usage
