i've had my 1997 S14 for almost a year now and have just started to notice a bit of a pop when i change gears, this only occasionally happens, pop seems to occur from the tip of the exhaust. only happens with the aftermarket exhaust (3" inch straight thru) run the stock exhaust a few months back and no pop at all.
Does anyone have any info on this for me or has this happened to someone?
cheers
are you running an atmo BOV?

are you running an atmo BOV?
its plugged up atm, so no
well its not recirculating. that's what's causing it, ecu thinks the vented air is getting plumbed back into the intake, pours more fuel in and thats what happens

Also check you got no air leaks in pipes and vac lines etc.

so if i put the bov bak on properly should this stop?
not unless its a recirculating bov, such as the stock one

tru, does running it with no bov or an aftermarket 1 hav a bad efftect on the car?
damage from running with no bov is debatable, some say it damages the turbo, some say its fine. look up compressor surge or flutter. i used to run no bov because didn't want cops to give me a yellow for it and was looking for a kit to plumb in my SSQV anyway
aftermarket bov doesn't have any bad effects that i know of, just causes the car to run a tad rich and causes the popping sounds because of what i explained before

yeah, but im thinking of putting the bov bak on as ther is a massive amount of flutter coming from the pod filter, nt sure if thats a good thing either

That is the air rebounding off the throttle body and going back into the turbo aka compressor surge.
