Long story short my father in law is very sick in Indonesia (nothing to do with the bombings) but wont go to a hospital over there. He needs to come back to Perth to see an Aussie doctor but Garuda wont let him on board the plane so now he's got issues.
Anyone here been refused a boarding pass before due to sickness or..? I thought most airlines would let you fly if you were still conscious, not pissed and could walk under your own steam.

Would depend what he had wouldn't it? I mean if he had swine flu it's probably not best to put him in a plane with a few hundred other people.
Maybe it depends on what care he would need?

Absolutely not! You'd have no chance of boarding a flight if you have any airborne virus.....why do you think there's all this fuss about Swine Flu? Although, you are talking Garuda Indonesia - their standards are pretty low.....

it's not flu sick, probably more like cancer sick. He hasn't been eating for about a week so he's very thin, so I've been told. From what I've been advised he's not throwing up or anything, he just has no energy... I'm just scratching my head over an airline not allowing him on board when he's coming back here to get medical treatment, it's not like he's going to drop dead over a 5 hour flight.

Apologies should have said I've been told he doesn't have flu like symptoms, however not having seen him myself I cant verify this 100%

The only way he can fly is if he gets medical clearance declaring your dad fit to fly. Unfortunately, he will need to see a doctor there to get that clearance. Other than doing that mate he'll have no chance flying back.

Yep that makes sense cheers. Looks like he'll have to see a doc over there like it or not

last thing any airline would want is the publicity of a passenger dying on a flight

Probably happens on a regular enough basis though.

If he can walk i dont see why he cant just get on and not tell about his sickness. Maybe get a hold of the embassy and try to suss out something.

it happens very often, however the corpse is move to first class for respect to the person. this is very common. as someone said above if they get medical clearence to fly there shouldnt be any issues.

So if I buy a first class ticket and someone on the flight dies they could put them in the seat next to me if its free? lol fuck that

I work at flight centre, if he is too sick to travel he will be rejected.

He will need to provide a doctors report or certificate to clear him for flying!

Garuda's standards are not that low either.

Try a low cost carrier like Air Asia or Virgin Blue you have to pay them for them to give a fuk! :)

yup... been done many times before, first you hear them ask if there is a doctor on board to certify the death then they move the corpse. apparently new planes will come with 'corpse cupboards'

He's trying again on Garuda tomorrow morning without seeing a doctor first. It will be interesting to see if they let him on board.

Well he got on the flight, strange. Must have been looking a bit better when he rocked up at the check-in desk this morning.
