yo,

my xbox 360 has RROD'ed finally, and now, my options are to send to M$ for $150 or some shit, coz its outta warrenty. and i got it 2nd hand

or

Find somewhere in perth to get it repaired?

I remember back in the day 98-99' era, there were pplz that did "modchips" in PS1 etc so u could play burnt games n NTSC games.

Anyone know if like , these kinda pplz still exist and can repair my RROD issue ?

Im going nuts at home coz i used it as a media server too , and now ive lost my remote to my set top box and im stuck on Channel 10 and cant watch anything else ..

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I don't know if the Mod Shop is still around, but they used to be on Epsom Ave in Belmont.

There is a place in the food court at Carousel that has a sign saying Xbox repairs, but I stopped there to ask about a mate's one recently and as soon as I sai it was the RROD issue, they said bin it.

Pretty sure Microsoft will fix it regardless and it wont set you back at all. Mates was outta warranty and it got fixed for nothin coz it's a known issue.

Not True... RROD issue warranty is only extended for 3 years from date of manufacture and can only be fixed for free if it does the RROD at the repair shop. if it doesn't its they contact you and ask if you want them to send it back or pay the $150 to get it fixed.

My advice, Get an arcade one form the shop you can get em for about $270 atm, that way you get a brand new one with new motherboard etc... (thats what i did)

RROD is a over heating problem , as i said in my post before , take it to my mate Jason at computer force ,East vic park and he'll try fix it.
USualy what they do is they take the whole thing apart and find the cpu and the heat sink , take the heatsink of ,rub it down and apply more thermal paste...im pretty sure thats what they do but yeh..

Better of buying an arcade box. They have the new chips to prevent RROD and run much quieter. Also EB games will do them if you want to take that course

Dunno what you folks are on about but I got the RROD error about a month ago, and mine was out of it's 3 year warranty. I rang Microsoft, and they fixed it for free, paid for the postage and handling, gave me an extra years warranty, and a free month on XBOX Live.

Also, it doesn't go to USA.. it goes interstate (Sydney I believe). Microsoft will send you an email with shipping instructions etc. All you do is print off the postage paid slip, fill in your XBOX repair reference number on it (which MS give you over the phone), put it in a box, put the slip on the box and take it to the post office. 2-3 weeks later it arrives back at your house ready to go.

your lucky then mate, mine wasn't doing RROD 100% of the time, and when i rang microsoft and they said if it doesn't do it for there techs then they'll contact me and ask me whether i want to pay $150 to have a look at it and fix it or for them to send it back.

Organise repairs and it wont cost you a cent. Like I said, my mate and I both got ours day of launch, and have since both had em fixed after warranty for nothing.

As for getting the arcade version, why bother? Wired controllers and no HDMI, fuck that for a waste of cash.

Microsoft will fix it for free whether its in warranty or not. I know heaps of people including myself who got it fixed out of warranty.

Microsoft are pretty good at doing what they can to help with these systems, they dont want to lose there hold on the market.

If your xbox 360 is fairly old - they're so cheap nowadays (arcade version), you're better off buying a new one as it will be heaps more realiable and the newer ones are less prone to rrod with better/revised cooling.

If your current one is a pro version with the hard drive, just get an arcade version and you can use the hard drive from your old console - then it's exactly the same as pro.
As said above, all new arcade versions now come with wireless controllers and hdmi output.

I did this exact thing and found a small problem which is annoying as fuck.
A couple of games (forza 2, arcade games etc) wont allow you to play using your DLC unless your hooked upto xboxlive. So with forza2, if im not connected to xboxlive i cant use that profile as it comes up with "this profile has DLC that cannot be found. Please use a different profile"

Not that bad, but still becomes annoying after 4 months.

How long does Microsoft guarantee there work for ?

Do you get another warranty after forking out $150 for repairs.

I'm tossing up to get it repaired or get an arcade if they launch some new console or new version of the 360 in another year id rather get that if microsoft will give me more warranty after paying for repairs

Well the only other real option is a ps3 which has a shitty online service and gets fuck all good games.

I'll take my chances with the 360 which I've only ever had one problem which was repaired quick and have access to a shitload of awesome games and a well thought out and setup online service over an overpriced peice of shit console that relies on a bluray player and the nostalgia of its predeccessor to sell itself.

Is that why mine wont work unless connected to xbox live.. i couldn't figure that one out!
Its not biggy with me though coz mine connects to xbox live automatically, only issue is if i take the HDD to a mates house and he doesnt have live, then i cant use that profile.
