Triple J did Hottest 100 since it started in 1989. Line up doesnt look too bad.
"Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit" took out top honours, with the whole 1 - 100 list found here:

Listened to it the other day, some great songs were played.
Anyone know where an active torrent for it is?

Good to see Buckley up there, but not sure if one of his covers should have been that high.. Grace should have been higher or Aligator Wine, not a Lenon Cohen cover.
Some awesome songs in there.
I also would have much rather seen rage at the top spot, i cant stand Nivarnas whining, power chord shit.

Really awesome to listen to on the weekend. It's always going to be subjective as to the content. But I thought they did pretty well.
Would have liked to see Foo Fighters - Everlong a bit higher. Also agree with RATM. That song fvcking goes off!!!! Though pretty satisfied with Nirvana as top gong, theres a pretty interesting documentary dedicated to that song.

Rage deserve top spot.
M.J. at 26 is bullsh#t.
A.C.D.C. with thunderstruck is waaaay too low.
Good list though, as everyone has already pointed out.
M.J. at 26 is bullsh#t.
they were talking about that on triple j, apparently it jumped around 30 places in the voting after he died.

2 Female singers in the list (one was a guest: Massive Attack - Teardrop) and I think something like 4 female band members...
John Lennons Imagine has been given the go ahead to appear on the CD, one of very few times they are allowing the song to be put on compilation...

Just goes to show women can't make decent music! haha
I would have thought Soko's 'I'll Kill Her' would have been in there. That song was played a ridiculous amount when it was released and STILL gets requested every now and then.

Killer list, Not my choice of tool songs but good to see them in there. Huge wtf moment at the hoods in the top 20 greatest songs of all time.
Other then half of the songs being radiohead it was an awsome list, so much anticipation for it over the week, 10 songs at a time.

a shit song that isn't very old is nowhere near worthy of top 100 of the past decade...
pretty decent list, would have liked another/older muse song to be in the list though

i heard the voting closed before his death?!
hilltops at 17 made me vomit. highest and only?! rap song in the list if you exclude the only song i voted for, sabotage by the beatsie boys. some run dmc or public enemy was needed to be up there.
just proved that australia is still deeply fixed in hard rock/british influenced rock.

Negative. He's a fucking weird looking bloke that one.
The list in these things is always going to be fucked, I mean, Hiltop Hoods in top 20.. and Tiny Dancer down at 68 wassit? In a list of the top 100 OF ALL TIME, this logic is just ridiculous.
96fm top 500 or whatever it is, is more accurate. Even though Bohemian Rhapsody takes it every year.. It's for a valid reason.

Over-all I was a bit dissapointed with the list.
Honestly expected more than just one Muse song to make it in.
No-one knows by Queens of the Stone Age should have been higher.
Stoked at Daft Punk getting 2 places though.

It isnt the best songs of all time , its a list of triple j's listeners favorite songs.
i heard the voting closed before his death?!
Michael Jackson died two days before voting closed I believe.

^^^Yes but what website/radio station was it held by?? It's allways going to have bias to the particular demographic the radio satation is targeting.

Fully aware. I was just highlighting the fact that calling it and building it up to be the top 100 triple j-played songs is just ridiculous, because all the people that made the older great songs soo popular, no longer listen to the station, let alone want to put a vote in ? So there was always going to be the 'flavour of the month' voters who'd vote for a song because it's the newest one from their favourite band, as apose to looking at the songs as a whole and realising wow, it's actually pretty shit in the big scheme of things.
Thus why I brought up 96's countdown as being a lot more accurate, because a much wider demographic is appealled to. You still have listeners from when acadaca first released some of their tunes, to people who started listening when they just released some of their new tunes!

Yeah I personally voted for Stockholm Syndrome, Hyper Music and Bliss.
roobiks, picking the "best" 100 songs of all time is so subjective, you could come up with a million variations and they would all be correct. who's to say that one song is better than another. it's the hottest 100 of all time, voted by the listeners of triple j. of course the "hottest" songs are going to change each decade, with a new generation.

I don't know why people are arguing, I'm merely saying, the idea of calling it the hottest 100 of all time is ridiculous due to being soo untrue to that title. Which you all agree with eh?

It's just your statement is absoutely pointless. Music is subjective.

yeah of course, we all have our own "hottest 100" but it's a popular vote. all i'm saying is, don't think of it as "the best songs ever" think of it as the most popular songs for a generation. whether or not they are the best songs ever is a moot point.

Wow. Just read thru the list, dont really listen to much radio these days so had no idea about it. IMO there's alot in there that shouldnt be. Kings of leon - sex on fire? Ah, no. Coldplay?? All that farkin Jeff Buckley.. Suprised there wasnt a few more Queen songs listed too. And yeah, as good as Hilltop Hoods are, do not belong in that list, or top 100 'of all time'.

I think the meaning "of all time" was more to open the floor to any song released at any point at any place, as opposed to their usual yearly ballot that only includes songs released during that year.
The interpretation behind the theme was much debated and the hosts were constantly bringing it up while advertising it. Kingsmill definitely noted it a few times during the list. Some people believe it to be what they thought were truly great songs (albeit not their personal favourites). Others found it to be their personal favourites (and it was noted this was the preferred way they wanted people to vote).
For that reason alone Hilltop made number 17 and at this current time in Australia with the listeners of triple J I completely agree that it's in the right spot.
