dvd to mpeg converter

Anyone know of any decent free dvd to mpeg converters? Sick of downloading trial versions that only do half the job.

Free & legal? Flask mpeg or gordian knot.
If your not adverse to illegal software Nero recode (part of Nero suite) does the trick quite well for me :)

to rip the data from a cd i used smartripper.. been around for years and can read the key to unencrypt it

then prefer to use divx encoder which you can download for free from divx.com
