Does anyone here hold a western australian firearm license, I'm just wanting clarification on what grounds you need to apply for one. My cousin actually has one but I know that he needed to get a station owner with a shitload of land to write a letter stating that he has given permission to my cousin to hunt on his land. This isnt really a possibility for me however, I've done a few google searches but would prefer someone who can just explain it to me in laymans terms as I find it fairly confusing.

Basically you have to be part of a shooting club, and attend it on a regular bassis, contribute etc.. cant just join one, get a gun, and shoot things.

i have looked into this a lil bit, to get a lic to own a RIFLE you need to own or have written premission from sum with minimum 5acres and for hunting purposes only.
Or you can join a pistol club but for this you need to be a regular contributing member, have to compete in a certain amount of compitions each year and the pistol has to be left at the club.

Why do u want a gun anyway? Small cock?

As a full member you will receive discounts on the regular shooting packages of approximately 50% off the non member prices. Also you will have access to club information nights, competition matches, plus invites to social functions organised by the club.

The following information details the regulations and criteria that need to be met in order for you to own your own firearms for target shooting sports through the club.

If you wish to license your own firearms via the club then in addition to your Full Membership you'll have to apply for an annual membership ($73.00) to the SSAA (Sporting Shooters Association of Australia).

Once you have your own guns the range fee for Full Members is $15.00 per hour plus ammunition (if not your own). Monday & Tuesday nights between 5pm & 7pm is our club night where members with their own guns receive free range time to participate in general target practice or SSAA Action Match (Monday) and Field Pistol (Tuesday) competition.

Upon full payment of fees you'll undertake a twenty six (26) week probationary period during which time you are required to complete a minimum of fifteen (15) separate attendance shoots. This will include a minimum of 2 SSAA Field Pistol matches. Prior to the end of your probation you can purchase your own firearm from the dealership. Storage for the firearm pending license approval is only $11.00 a month.

Once you have served your probationary period and completed your minimum number of shoots you can make an application to license the firearm through the Club. The Club's management will assess the application on the basis of its merit and upon a successful assessment, complete a form 1 Support Application which will then be sent to the SSAA(WA) for their approval.

A Form 2 Support Letter will be mailed back to you and this needs to be submitted to your local police station where you will need to fill out a number of forms and undergo a twenty eight (28) day "cooling off" period if you are a first time license applicant. At the end of this period you need to contact the police to let them know you wish to proceed with the application.

The application then gets processed by your District Office and police will run local and interstate identity checks on you to determine any criminal record. This generally takes two to three weeks to complete depending on circumstances.

You will need to provide "safe-storage" facilities in order for you to license your firearm. This usually involves purchasing and installing a gun safe that meets WA Police Firearms Branch requirements or getting your storage facilities inspected and approved by Police.

Once all these criteria have been satisfied you will be issued with a temporary permit to collect your firearm and present it to your local police station where you will be issued with your firearm license.

In order to maintain your license support you need to remain a financial member of an approved shooting club and the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (WA) Inc. You also need to satisfy a "minimum activity requirement" of one registered match (6 per year) and a proficiency shoot every eight (8) weeks.

you got me :(

thanks for the info fellas, i might look into it a little further, just wanted to apply for it as I was under the impression that you could apply for a 'collectors' license and I wanted a WWII era lee enfield SLME. i know u can get the 'deactivated' ones without a license but I would rather one in original condition. cheers
