I went through a speed camera this morning doing about 80 in a 60 zone up Canning highway. THe camera guy appeared to be still setting up as he was standing next to the camera holding what looked to be a small camera lense (glass disc like thing) in his hand pointing the same direction as the camera.

I am hoping he was still setting up and i didnt get done - does anyone know the set up process these guys go through?
Do you reckon i will get a fine?

I didnt see a flash so i am hoping for the best.

I got flashed like that once when I wasnt even speeding, rang up and they said hes was calibrating the camera and I wouldnt get fined. I did see a flash.

If you didnt see a flash it didnt go off.

You may be in the clear there MRO.
He may have just been calibrating it.

About a year ago I got flashed doing 90 in the 80 zone on the freeway. There were no other cars around me so it was definitely me that got flashed but the operator was doing something similar to what you described. Never got the fine.

+1. They do calibrating at the beginning and end of every setup. I knew I wasn't speeding when I got flashed, so I turned around and went and spoke to the operator.

They don't always use the flash either when you do get done (unless the laws have changed). I got pinged a while ago (couple of years) and didn't see a flash go off. Went in and viewed the photo, and was definitely me in my car. Told the officer there wasn't a flash (also didn't see a sign afterwards), and he said they don't always use the flash if the weather is clear. They DO have to have the sign up afterwards though.

Numberplates are designed for maximum clarity with a flash day or night, the cop you spoke to probably never operated a camera and just gave an easy answer as Im fairly sure the flash always goes off no matter what time of day it is. Ive seen flashes on clear sunny days plenty of times.

I have seen them go off on clear sunny days as well.

I didn't see a flash go off for the pic that was taken & fine that was issued.

Hope so.. pulled up behind some other cars and saw the camera but no flash, fairly sure I was over the limit though.

Does anyone know how long it takes to reload after every shot?

I've had a fine come through about 5 months after it happened..
About 2 years ago got flashed doing 55 in a school zone (public holiday though?) but the fine never came through so i dont know what that camera was doing flashing me at 55 in what was then a 60 zone?

Also got a littering fine (cigarette butt=$70) about 3 months after it happened :S

I had always suspected my sisters speedo was out, no one believed me until i got done on the freeway last week in 100km/h zone. We went and checked it against my Mums car (that she claims is accurate coz she always checks it on those electric display boards) and it was 10km out (she would sit on 70km/h and my sisters readout would be 60).

Has anyone here bothered to contest a speeding fine because of a faulty speedo?

anyone know about a red light coming from the speed camera at night? cos about 3 weeks ago i was driving along and passed a speed camera no flash but a red light was emitted from the camera i was going like 63 in a 60 zone, i didnt think it was a flash so i went past it again going 50 same deal, now i really hope i didnt get done twice by the same camera and if i did get done i will contest it

Its the owners issue if there instrumentaion doesnt read right. If its a manufacturers fault then get them to pay for it, but if you have the wrong size tyres, or anythign that might have put it out youll be pushing shit up hill.

That's the thing, it's a early 90's Suzuki Swift with standard wheels and hubcaps. What else would cause it to be out?

Camera's emit a red flash at night so that drivers aren't blinded.

As has been mentioned, if they were setting up and calibrating then it goes off no matter what speed the car is doing. If you weren't speeding then i wouldn't worry. Nothing you can do about it till the letter arrives in the mail.

Used to work years ago, now they can read your plate and know that you have tried to out smart them and get fined for speeding and modifying your plate....

Cops caught on to this after lots of ppl started buying the spray...
I had 2 cans of the stuff, had to keep sanding and recoating every month as the clear layer would turn browm and start to peel...

Ive heard some hair spray works... never tried it never will.

thought id ask here and not start a new thread for just a simple speed camera related question...

bunky was for sale and had someone interested in it, chose for them to view car close to my TAFE in Fremantle.

Had a middle aged man, and what looked to be his son come take it for a test drive.

Long story short, they came back from a quick test drive and said might of got flashed by a speed camera on Stock Rd.... before i could ask questions they jumped in there rodeo and took off.

Was a bit stupid to let something like that happen in first place then even more stupid by not taking there plates down, not even sure if its entirely true and cant even check if there was a speed camera there....

Anyway, not sure what i have to do now if it was true?
also, what happens if was one of those rear facing cameras?

All i know, is guy is called Grant and i dont even have a number :slap:

How long ago was it? If you get a fine, fill out the form on the back and include a stat dec if you're keen telling them the story, and hope for the best.

Let it be a lesson about taking a copy of the license of anyone take your car for a test drive. It covers you against these kinda things but it also makes sure that the person driving your car actually has a license.

I'm more surprised that you would let two complete strangers drive your car without you in it.

Probably, I haven't read the back of one either. This from the fine sitting on my desk here:

Half way down, Part F Subsection B
"I am unable to ascertain who the driver or person in charge of was at the time of the alleged offence due to _________________________"

So fill that out and hope for the best. Reading it now, the back seems fairly straightforward.

There are still a few trusting people in the world it seems. Rare these days, and understandably so.
