I hope I am not reposting on someone elses thread but anyway...
So the first episode top gear season 13, bit of a ripper!
They review this new lotus and then go, uh well this its time around the track we want to show you how the stig goes in this ferrari instead. It looks like an enzo on crack made love to the bat mobile but all attempts to laugh are shattered when it goes out on the track...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcEj2F24puQ
the stig gets out in the studio afterwards and takes of his helmet and all is apparently revealed.. its bullshit of course but I must admit I did fall for it until i seriously thought about it logically
Anyway my point being, do you really think that this car is THE shit and thats why it did a lap time like it did, or do you think it was his driving?
I just can't understand how ferrari can say hey you wanna buy one of these things no worries a million pounds, but you cant ever have it at your house, it has to stay at the factory and you can request it go to a track for you to drive for a day, then go back to the factory. what about if u want to cruise for poon?
are they trying to hide some mad whack new warp drive mr sulu shit technology from being stolen or are they just that up themselves their rules are getting out of control? or am i missing something......???/?

That was just JC talking shit.
The FXX is a development project with 30 cars and test drivers (owners) with scheduled test sessions on some of the worlds best race tracks each year. Owners nominate which ones they want to compete in at the start of the year and then Ferrari organises everything for you from there (transport, accomm. etc)
You own the car so you ARE allowed to take it home if you wish and do your own track events or whatever, it isn't street legal so no "cruising for poon". However most owners just let Ferrari store the cars in Maranello out of convenience, as all of them have plenty of road cars at home they can use for driving on the street.

i went to download it yesterday arvo at work but fail :( come give me a copy!
I thought what the chaser did too was funny as fuck... they went to london, chas dressed up as stig and then tried to convince random poms on the street that he wanted to drive their car.
They got some guy and they drove him all the way from london to stonehenge to france, 700kms lol. not a word...

sweet! thanks for the explanation dude, since you seem to know a bit about it, what do you reckon about his lap time, do you think it was driver ability or is that ferrari going to give the bugatti a run for its money when its all said and done....or is this never going to be considered a 'production car' ?
i want to know what makes it so illegal for the street compared to what some of the other more intense 'super cars' have.....

my bet would be indicators, or some thing of the like, but really the car should not be on the wall as it contradicts there own requirements saying it must be able to be road registrable

The FXX won't be a street car, thats what the Enzo is (the FXX is just a "modified" Enzo really). However Edo Competition did modify one to be street legal in Germany. Ferrari use the FXX program to test new technologies which will go into their future road cars.
It would smash a Veyron around the track, straight line and top speed probably goes to the Bugatti but that isn't the aim of the FXX.
What makes it illegal for the street? No mirrors (although Enzo mirrors were an option), indicators, brake lights, far too loud, slick tyres....from what I can tell.
