Hi everyone,

As you are aware, Antilag's very popular and successful Classifieds Section, has a number of rules.

These are..

- NO BUMPING, 1st bump will be deleted if a 2nd occurs thread will be locked

- Private posts only, this includes posting for friends, or individuals fronting for businesses. This excludes Antilags Paying Sponsors.

- Post a price, lets be clear on this though, if it's blatantly overpriced, expect to cop flack. This forum isn't here to rip off fellow members.

- Please keep to the topic - Ask genuine questions and dont get off track. It makes it easier for all - sellers arn't checking back for no reason and wasting their time and it also gives the forums a more professional look. Random offtopic posts will be deleted.

From now on, there is another rule to be added.....

No excessive use or abuse of the classifieds section.

This relates to those who join the forum, post the minimum amount of posts to gain access to the classifieds, and then spend the rest of their time on these forums peddling their parts and other items. If you are one of these types of users, your threads and posts may be deleted without warning, no questions asked. The classifieds are a privilege, not a right.

If you have any queries or questions about this new rule, please feel free to ask in here and we'll be more than happy to answer the question.

Thanks :)

To expand on this one - people who continue to ignore/disregard this rule will cop a ban, then a longer one, then finally a permanent ban.

Trust us, we do have better things to do then sit here and moderate these threads all day.

Yeah really Dylan.

I enjoy being on here, but would rather not have to delete between 10-50 posts each day.

Were not actually asking alot, the rules are simple and fair.

I did not fucking stutter, so it should be clear to all.

Good rules but i think pics for all forsale ads should be a pre-requisite as nothing more annoying asking for pics and so forth as dont understand if you're selling parts or whatever id think pics would be a priority.

^ when i tried advertising my car here though people asked for pictures but it wasn't because i didn't have any but i wasn't allowed to post any photos?

can everyone post photos or is it something i'll need to speak to a mod about?

You'll need to upload the photos to a webserver and then link the pictures in the thread.

Antilag.com/forums will not allow you to upload the photos to its personal webspace for all members to use for a couple of reasons.
1> anything could be uploaded and then antilag.com could get in some real trouble.
2> there's too many members and the space would fill up very quickly.

+1,
Just a suggestion, it might be more useful to allow new members only to view and not create threads/posts in classifieds. Win-win situation right?
They can always PM the seller to ask questions.

Pretty sure thats how it is now?

New members can see the for sale sections, but not post in them. If they want to buy it, they can PM.

that what every other forum does..

plus the seller should have the previlege to advertise to all members to increase their chances for a sale.

yeh ive been a member here for about 2yrs, my post count is low but ive always been able to view the classified sections, but recently they've become blocked so i cant view any of them. Is this suppose to be how it is cos it seems a lil ridiculous especially for members like me who've been here for a while but just havent posted much...

Joe

Should be fine now, I've updated the forum permissions so all users can see the threads, but anyone with under 10 useful posts (i.e off-topic posts do not add to post count), cannot post threads or reply in threads.

It's always been a tricky one... blocking new users completely from the classifieds means that people have less chance of selling their stuff, and allowing them full use means that they are only used by some people to sell their stuff.

The balance point is everyone can view them, only people with 10 posts or more can post in there.

As per my original post, we've started cracking down on serial classifieds abusers i.e. those who got their post count to 10 by posting shit, then only using our forums to sell stuff. These types of posts and threads will be deleted without warning from now on, no questions asked or explanations given.

Update time :

Starting earlier, admin began looking through some of our members who took no notice of these rules.

First member to have their access to the for sale area removed is

Bazelinez!

He joined antilag on the 8th of November 2004
He has since created 108 threads in his time here.
107 of those have been ads in the for sale area.

He has contributed NOTHING to these forums, yet continues to take with great regularity.

We are not the quokka, and we have to pay for bandwith around these here parts, and thus he wont be wasting ours anymore.

Still more then welcome to use the rest of the forums.. but the odds of the are low. He is the first, wont be the last.

Bazelinez

whoop dee doo.

Contributed Nothing?

I highly doubt that, 400 odd posts over 5 years.

But if it makes you feel like a sick pingpingpingping then by all means go ahead.

Using the classifieds isn't "Taking". Other users of the forums may be looking for things and having stuff for sale might help them find it?

Also, just because I've haven't started any threads, doesn't mean I"m not contributing to existing ones.

Some people have lives that exist outside forums TJ, not everyone has time to rack up 20,000 posts.

TJ

Im the person posting the info - but it was not a self guided decision. When the owner of the site agrees, I dare say its the right decision.

I can happily supply screen shots to prove our point too.

As for the snide shot about 20 000 posts, you do know its a piss take, and can be changed on a whim? As for a life outside of here - anyone who knows me is well aware I have quite an active life outside of here, so you fail.

Not sure how it'd work here, but there is another forum that I frequent who also have strict guidelines on their classified forums.

With theirs, no-one except the moderators are able to reply to threads in the sections, with the same 'New Member' policy as here. This eliminates the possibility of bumping, and also users trying to click up their post count with a "dis stuffz orsm, ppl buy it plz so i cn go buy more crack!".

It also means that people with a genuine interest in the item MUST private message the seller for more information/etc, instead of the average tyre kicker with no intention of buying wasting the sellers time.

Do you think it'd work here? Food for thought.

Joe
13-08-2009, 07:37 AM
A lot of other forums have a similar system to that, and although it works, I believe its very annoying having to PM people constantly about stuff.

Open forum questions and answers makes it easier to sell IMHO, and if policed properly, isn't an issue.

Stopping the abusers from using the Classifieds section is the first step towards making the Classifieds a better place for everyone.

R3N

also stops the OP replying to the same questions from different people

TJ

To be honest we really dont intend on changing the system, simply ensuring it is fairly used by our members.

I got sick of the same thing on my forums and some of the members on here that dont even own bm's jumped on mine and started doing the same thing so i introduced a blanket policy of $10 for a years worth of threads in the for sale section. it cut down on whoring and helps pay for the hosting.

Bazelinez
13-08-2009, 12:48 PM
I'd pay $10 to pedal my wares on here,

Obviously 20 threads per year is over doing it....

Brockas
13-08-2009, 01:00 PM
I don't have a problem with members posting 20 For Sale threads in a year.

Where the problem lies, is when we look through 10 pages of posts from a user, and every single one of them is in the classifieds section.

People here volunteer time and money to keep this place going, but if certain people are just using it as a way to flog off their shit, then why would we bother?

Bazelinez
13-08-2009, 01:18 PM
What about people that have contributed in the past yet no longer own cars relevant to the site but still come here?

I may not help as much as others but I still read through everything. How many times is one expected to answer "How much boost does a stock SR make?"

Seems many members on here simply post shit like mum jokes and other crap anyway. Is that "contributing"
