Well looking at building whole new PC as i need it mainly for multimedia.
I dont really care if its AMD or Intel.
I want something with alot of ram
Atm i have a dual core 2.2 with 2 GB ram and its starting to chug like a mother.
So if anyone can recommend a system or somewhere with cheap parts.

MSY has dirt cheap parts.
dual core 2.2 i would still say is pretty modern?

id almost suggest chucking a bit of ram in that current system, and give it a clean out.
If its DDR2 ram you can get 4gb kits for about $80 now cheap as chips

ok, dont even bother running 4gb ram unless u r running a 64bit operating system as 32bit only access's 3gb ram max, MSY r decent in prices but i never use em, i jus use perth shops and 1 eastern states site.

Yea reason i am upgrading pc as i am working with very large files and often a few at once so to have a bit more processing power would be awesome.

Another +1 for netplus.. they even assemble custom pcs cheaper than you can source all the individual parts separately.
Might be worth going with a faster hdd as a scratch disk if you're doing image/multimedia editing as well.

Built most of my system from PLE.
Some great prices there.

id suggest with 2gb ram and a decent CPU, it could be hard disk throughput which could be your bottleneck...
Might want to look at a SCSI (or at least 10,000rpm sata) hard disk for your OS to run on, with slower and cheaper hard disk for storage.

Getting 64bit windows is as easy as ordering a disk from Microsoft, its free to upgrade your current windows(legit) to the 64bit of your current version unless its Basic...
