anyone here use it?

recieved a payment for an item and although its showing up in my accout - it is pending review on behalf or paypal. have used it few time in past and funds normally go through instantly.

paypal have informed me to hold on to the item until they have finished their investigation stating that the buyer is a high risk

have heard a few stories where its very easy for people a dodgy buyer to lodge a complaint through paypal saying the item isnt what they expected etc etc and therefore paypal automatically refunds them 'your' money direct from your account....

besides the rip off exchange rates, anyone had bad experiences with paypal?

I've been using Paypal for years and have never had an issue.
The only similar thing I can think of is when someone paid me using some sort of credit e-voucher - I had to wait for the payment to clear. The payment was in there but it hadn't been cleared so it didn't show up on my accout balance.

It doesn't sound right to be able to refund payments like you have been told. I'm keen to hear what happens so keep us posted!

been using paypal for awhile with no problems until only the other week someone decided to hack into my account and withdrew 1350 u.s.

paypal have been most co-operative, kept in contact through the whole process and i should see the money refunded back into my account within 5 working days.

for those that cant - some of the post from the thread

so i just sold a set of perfect condition 745 headlights to a buyer who paid more than the average set goes for. a few days after he received them i get an email from paypal saying the buyer filed a complaint on the basis that i didnt describe the item accurately. apparently the piece that holds the HID bulb itself was loose and wiggley, like a bobblehead. he never installed the lights as his car was in teh shop and the absolute only way for him to know this would be to remove the rear casing and put his fingers in tehre and check. now Im 100% sure these were perfect when sent. paypal did their investigation and concluded that he gets a refund and send me back the broken light. now im stuck with a light i cant sell, negative feedback (to my 100% positive) and this guy gets away with it. I filed an appeal but paypal wrote back the next day and said the buyer was happy with the outcome and closed the appeal. Any ideas on WTF to do?

cliffs: sold item on ebay - buyer switched with his broken item - i got screwed

Nope, nothing you can do. I'm surprised paypal ruled in the buyer's favor. I've had a couple transactions where I've bought items which were broken and very misrepresented and paypal declined my dispute stating they cannot verify the quality of the product, but only that the seller shipped "something" out.

sold one of my mountain bikes on ebay, $1400 bucks which was a fair price for it at the time. Bike went from rolling to boxed up to shipped.

Guy lost a $1.50 part of the brakes when re assembling, put a paypal dispute *he paid through credit card* saying bike wasn't complete, and i lost $400 out of my checking account...oh yeah, this was 2 months after he purchased it.

If the buyer disputes and pays via credit card, 99% of the time the credit company rules in the buyers favor.

So with that said, go ahead, commit fraud, you will get away with it as long as paypal is involved.

it is VERY common for paypal to side with the purchaser. have heard alot of stories very similar to those above.

never had a problem myself, but i think op will be fine. give it a few days for the cash to clear.

exact same thing happened to me last weekend, it was about $2K AUD. Someone hacked my account and purchased a Blackberry and accessories. I got all the money returned back to me in about 6-7 days.

for those who have had accounts hacked - how have u noticed?

does it come up as a transaction on paypal? or have u been tipped off by suspicious debits on bank statements then later traced it back to paypal?

first noticed that my bank balance went into debit and i got charged a dishonour fee. the transaction on myt bank statement said PAYPAL with a corrosponding ID number under it.

I logged onto PayPal and could see details of the transaction. The funds had already been transfered to the seller. I lodged a dispute with paypal, then contacted the seller, withdrew the money back from them and put it back on my paypal account. i pulled the money off my paypal account and closed it promptly.

after my account had been hacked, it went it a restricted mode whereby i couldnt make any more changes to the account. this seemed to be pretty good.

i have never used PayPal before so when i saw it on my bank statement, i was very suss about it.

its pretty noticable when 800 is taken out of your account lol..think it also says paypal or something on the transaction.

if i didnt have internet banking to check it and stop the funds from proceeding i wouldve been screwed.

IF you have it set up right you should get email alerts every time a transaction takes place in paypal to, so you would know pretty quick (assuming you check your emails often).

I have used paypal for probably 2k worth of gear (all in fairly small purchases mind you) and havnt had a problem, but i dont buy stuff of random forum members i have never met, only from legit online stores.

seems like there is no issues with transactions, its more that their system seems to be getting hacked.

Noticed when i received the email confirming the payment went through to some dude i have never heard of, then sure enough checked my cc and was charged. Once you have made a transaction on paypal it will be sent to your email aswell. Since paypal gets to know where you login through your i.p (perth for instance) and if it notices activity outside the area it will generally suspend your account too for safety reasons.

checked today and money has been refunded. Then they will have to do the chasing up.

big up's for paypal when it comes to things like this, was quick, professional and easy.

paypal are interesting at the best of times

i was selling a stack of bits and pieces on paypal, and occasionally if your selling pattern increases dramatically, they lock the funds away until you prove your identification and the like to them. Imagine the tax office is wanting to know information re how much your earning and not paying tax.

Had major disputes over selling stuff with paypal, nothing from sellers just the service itself. IF you dont supply them all the information thru one of their random "resolution services" they hold your money then forfeit it after a certain period of time.

Also you have to fax off the information off to the US, and they are shit slow.
