Are you cloning or extending the output?

Not sure if the HDMI out is like a normal output, but it may have been disabled in display properties. Under display options try selecting 'clone'

What Operating System are you running?

Windows updates has fucked this option many times.

My first guess would be a recent update has caused it. Otherwise, check your function keys on the Vaio (it will be fn+something to switch to a second display)

Well you can extend it via:

Right click desktop, properties, display settings, click on the second monitor if it is greyed out and tick the 'extend the desktop on to this monitor'

If you want to clone it, it needs to be done through the software provided by the video card. For example, Nvidia Control Panel or ATI Catalyst Control Center

Do you have anything like that?

I think he means the TV has to be on the right input setting.

Like HDMI 1

If ur pluggin a hdmi cable into ur tv u do not need 2 change tv settings as the tv already has set hdmi channels, its the laptop settings at fault

for future reference i recently had a similar problem with my comp running through hdmi to my tv. the problem can come about because of a hdcp handshake issue. i can fix it simply by turning the tv off then back on, it'll probably be the same for you too.

the tv requires the handshake every time the channel is changed back to the comp, from another input only on my tv, but the comp will only try to handshake once, on initial startup. a reset of either will fix it up.

While we are on this issue of Hooking up HDMI to the TV, what refresh rates are you guys experiencing?

I hooked up my Media centre to my brand new Sony Bravia Z series with the eagerness of a little child, only to find that it runs HDMI at 1080p24. This means that the frames run at 24 frames per second....

I researched and found that this was actually a 'feature' as all Blueray\Hi-Def stuff is actually recorded at 24 fps. Therefore the 1080p24 allows for a smoother picture as it does not need to upscale the fps to 50 or 60 fps....

Whats people opinions and experience on this?

Currently I am running it through the PC input which only allows a max resolution of 1360x768, but runs it as 60fps. Better for games such as Audiosurf etc..

my tv is not a full hd one so i run 720p50 or 60 (whichever is the pal setting) with a bit of overscan.

dont play games on it, its just for movies etc, and it seems fine. no 24fps option for anything less than 1080p, so i've never tried it.

Fair enough...mine does run fine for my HD rips, because they have been ripped at 24fps..

Another issue is that normal avi's dont run properly because I think they are recorded at a FPS faster than 24 frames.
This causes the audio to progressively go out of sync as it plays the audio for a higher frame rate :(
Anyone know of any fixes to this?

I have fucked around with it so much that I have just settled for the lower res with the high refresh rate.....

my tv is full hd and so is my laptop, picture is brilliant on both.

What TV do you have SSICK?

Berny

never mind, I have been inspired to do some more research and have found that an app called 'forceware' can be used to force the fps to 24 frames.

Cheers for you help!
