Hopefully its good. I thought all the other need for speeds were AWESOME fun. A lot different to Forza, which made for a good change :) who doesnt love ramming cop cars at 380km/h+ flipping in the air, landing and then back on your merry way.
If its anything like Most Wanted or Underground I would definitely purchase.

underground was terrible, possibly worst graphic game on the ps3, looked more like a ps2 game. Some of the earlier games were ok

Racedriver:Grid PS3 is a good alternative to nfs/forza. Possibly the best drifting gameplay too, great fun. You guys should check it out.

Big ups for GRID, drifting was lots of fun.
flamo_damo

GRID is okay but not great, drifting and handling overall is still pretty crap.
Bring on Forza 3, however this NFS looks okay video was pretty sweet.

Lets all remember though, that NFS has an awful, AWFUL track record...Well..Besides Porsche challenge anyway
I reckon it will be crap, so hopefully im pleasantly surprised when I play it :)

Have not been impressed by a need for speed game since highstakes and hot pursuit 2.

I busted out some HP2 the other day and still enjoyed it. Supercars being chased by cops without nos or tribal decals, gotta love it. The latest NFS Undercover was ok, I just hope Shift isnt some closed circuit wanna-be serious racer, coz NFS is about speeding and road racing and all of that, or to me at least. If I wanna sim I'll play Forza.
Porche challenge has been the best one so far. Pitty the graphics were a bit poor

Yeah Fair enough, Hot Pursuit was good, but how long ago was that!!
I found the undergrounds fairly average...Some aspects were fun, but the game as a whole was lacking...

Okay so this came out yesterday, has anyone got it yet? What do you think?
After playing it last night its a bit like Grid however the handling is the best its ever been in a NFS games things like lifting your wheel off over a ripple strip kick out you rear end, spinning seems more realistic, drifting is fucking hard but being able to drift on Ebisu is great.
What everyone elses thoughts?

considering picking this up at work today, IGN reckons its pretty good (9/10), would like to know what its like from people in the real world first though, need something else besides GT5:prolouge comes out (if it ever comes out...)

picked it up yesterday as well.
very good, agree that it is similar to Grid.
Drifting is very difficult, would say most realistic drifting in a game I have played

Im tempted to download this.....I dont wanna waste 100 bucks on a shitty game like the last 3 or so.
I dunno what way to go, need a racing game for the next month before Forza comes out.. Shift or Dirt 2 ? Anyone played dirt 2? Both have been reviewed well.

EB Games is the way to go. If you don't like it, return it within 7 days for your money back. I have done this with about 4 games and never been asked any more than "Didn't like it, eh?".
Cheaper than hiring it out to test if you like it or not.
After watching the review on Game Trailers, I'll be giving it a go at some point.

Does look pretty good and very tempted to grab it... return policy ftw
The Need for Speed games have slowly been getting worse each year.
Average review scores (for 360 version):
2005 - Need for Speed Most Wanted - 83.08%
2006 - Need for Speed Carbon - 77.66%
2007 - Need for Speed ProStreet - 71.91%
2008 - Need for Speed Undercover - 64.51%
2009 - Need for Speed: Shift - 84.47%
I guess if you think of it as a stop-gap till Forza 3 or GT5 then you won't be disappointed.

I always preffered the first NFS, the whole cannonball run is something they need to get back to. was great fun flying through the hills in a lambo diablo and getting in crazy crashes where you rolled down cliffs and stuff haha :D

lol if you watch that vid you can see how they slowly lost the whole idea behind the games...

I bought undercover and it was pathetic.
Most wanted & Carbon i enjoyed but there all the same.

I will be waiting for both GT5 & Forza 3. Forza 1st i think :S

Apparently they employed the services of a guy that Simbin used to do the physics on some of their driver games and Ferrari challenge. All of which were based on simulation platforms rather then the arcade type stuff we've been seeing with the NFS games.

alright i played about 2 hrs of it today and im undecided.....i cant sit down for a solid hour and play it ...its wierd... i just get bored.
its fucking difficult i tell you that ive got everything on easy and its bloody hard....
i chucked everything on hard and I tell you what if you can complete the game with every on hard/expert ill buy you a carton :D
its kinda like Pro street but more like forza.
its more of a sim than the other need for speeds where u could come flying into a corner at 200 and just drift through....you actualy have to pick you lines and stuff like that.

one thing but it took me 20 mins or so to actualy tune the car suspension wise to get the thing around the track....which ive never done before on a NFS game...little wierd :P

From what i've played so far i;m impressed.
Its a mix of sim and arcade which is pretty cool.
Not an overly challenging game though.
Picked Shift up today and played for about 3 or so hours. It's going back to the store tomorrow. I don't use the pad for racing games, but playing with the G25 is completely devoid of fun.
There are huge fundamental flaws in the physics model - like how understeer is resolved by simply winding on more steering lock. The force feedback effects are weak and don't provide any sort of feel for the road beneath you. It's games like this that really make you appreciate Gran Turismo.
I'll swap it out for Dirt 2 instead. Not really a sim, but it's a lot more fun with the G25 than Shift.

After hearing mainly bad reviews on shift I purchased dirt2 instead. Coupled with the MS wheel its very entertaining. Forza 3 on back order. If ONLY the G25 was compatible with the 360 fkn!

My personal opinion? It's very realistic which is a plus but the one downside, now my PC is pretty average/high end. In between that anyway, Grid runs perfect on my computer no problems. But NFS Shift, the load times are insanely long, and it does get lag spikes fairly often. Now I don't know if it's just me, but seems to me EA rushed out another game without optimizing it.
Drifting though, on some circuits (such as togue or ebisu, not sure haven't play it all that much), the track seems really cramped, i'm using an xbox 360 controller to play it, and just seems a bit harder then usual, grid was pretty good for it, but this feels way off.
I don't know thats my opinion and how i see it. Seems you really need an extreme high end PC to run it (Though thats for the game to look good, I had to resort to turning alot of things down and the game looked like ass, so I made it look good and I'm putting up with a bit of lag). So if you don't have a High end PC, get it for PS3 or 360.

Yeah mate it did that for myself and my mate when we were installing it on our machines. Just let it sit there for abit it eventually completes.
Iv had the game about a week now and diffently think its good game. Played all night the night i got it and still cant get enough of it. SOO much better than the old ones. Everythings nice and simple like the menus n shit and modding the car isnt stupid like the old ones.
Id give it 8/10.

I'm retarded too, Drifting for me is better know as spinning out. I only play it with my wheel so I'm guessing the joypad must be the key.

Ive found if you have the physics model on pro or whatever the hardest one is drifting is pretty bloody hard. Pro, next one down is easier to get the hang of and you can then move up from there. I think it is pretty realistic on these levels, but i dont have much experience with racing at 200k plus so nothing to compare to. lol
One thing thats really starting to shit me with this game is the bounce cars encounter at random intervals for no real reason.

I had a go at this new NFS for about 20min at a mates house last week and thought it was abit like GRID, I'dd have to buy it though just to make sure I'dd be disapointed.
Much happier with DIRT 2. Been playing it for hours, cant get enough of it.

i read this whilst i was still doing normal races... i've got a 2000 GT-R with all teir 2 mods, so it barely keeps traction, and drifts around whether i like it or not
thinking you were all full of shit about the drifting, as it seemed so easy in the GT-R... i tried it, and FUCK ME, its bullshit hard...
anyone figured it out?
i've tried full throttle, half, quarter, everything.. i just end up flying miles away from the clipping points, or plowing straight into them without even drifting..
Silencio
09-10-2009, 09:06 PM
with the drifting aspect of the game u have to use hand brake to get the car to a decent angle and just 100% throttle and steer through it, also try and use another button for brake as u can wash off speed if your gonna take out a wall, but not jump off the throttle or the car will snap back on you
mitchy
10-10-2009, 08:49 PM
figured out the drifting.. a few people recommended going back to 'casual' difficulty to get the hang of it, now i've gone back to experienced and it seems to be a hell of a lot easier than last time..
4 second drift is not as easy as it seems either!
also the car made a big difference, i found the FD rx7 to be pretty easy..
i also found the 135i to be the best once you have to buy your own drift car too
