View Full Version : My Cooper S
Time to introduce my new ride:
04 Mini Cooper S Chilli
Has the following options from factory:
-Harmon Kardon Sound System
-Leather interior
-Panoramic Sunroof
-Bonnet 'Race' Stripes
-17" Chilli Wheels
Absolutely love driving this thing. Looked at various other cars before buying and still found this by far the most enjoyable.

nice pickup, cannot stand the dash arrangement though.
I've heard the blown version is more fun than the newer turbo motor too.
planning on mods?

HEHHE cute....
Old man had a retro one a few years back....
Gripped like hell

Haha well the black 4x4 is mine also - weekend basher.
It's got alot going for it and an endless supply of bolt-on upgrades. Just need to work out exactly what i want and go from there.
From what i can gather a decent increase in power is as simple as a bolton exhaust/intake and purchase a reflash.
Should increase power by ~25-35%. The rest I plan on spending on quality suspension. Pretty much just improve on what the car has going for it. Its size/handling.

nice one adam good on ya
milltek exhaust! very fun to drive, mate has one, swaybars definitely need upgrading to thicker ones tho
Very nice pickup - surprised me at how well it went - Adz just left it in a higher gear and let the s/c do the work.
Enjoy it man!

Bingo, exactly the sort of thing im looking at doing. Just taking my time with the research on the right sort of combinations to go with.
Most of what im able to research is from overseas, not really stumbled on too much info locally. Still yet to speak to some local tuners and see what they can offer.

as a daily, i'd say these are the perfect get around vehicle.
Well time for an update.. since there is actually stuff to update :)
So far I have done:
-Alta CAI v2.0
-One-Ball exhaust mod
-Added 'king chilli' rear vision mirror ornament
The cai is of excellent quality - nice silicone piece, well made box and fits securely. (note: not my one pictured below - red silicone with black filter)
http://www.mini2.com/galleries/data/851/66797.jpg
The one-ball exhaust mod.. well thats just to get some noise out of it and cut out a major restriction - this WILL be changed for a set of extractors and a full system in a few months time (sorting out other toys/priorities atm) - from the pic below u get the idea why its called one-ball.. if not.. picture standing behind the car looking at a pair of mufflers.
http://www.ross-tech.net/andy/mini/oneball.gif
King Chilli (wog thing.. been on all my cars.. just so happens its a chilli model)
http://www.luckymojo.com/cornocrown.gif
Then the tragedy!! Coming back from work 2 weeks ago - turning onto Vincent st from loftus in peak hour traffic. Roll forward and hear/feel an almight BANG.
Roll forward and the car feels like it has a triangle wheel at the back. Pull over straight away on first side street.. to find a bolt has puncture the tyre. Call up my mate with a towtruck and 20 minutes later im on my way home with the mini on the back.
This is where i get shitty. As the car uses runflats it does not come with a spare tyre. Since the bolt is lodged in the tyre and was causing it to drive all over the place. It is now undrivable. So up on stands it goes. I finally got my ass around to pulling out the bolt and taking some pics after work today and this is what i find:
Hole it punched through the wheel
http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs034.snc3/12135_337314915213_791260213_9973197_2917326_n.jpg
Start to pull it out - im thinking.. hmm normal looking bolt
http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs034.snc3/12135_337314910213_791260213_9973196_6989376_n.jpg
"Ok.. WTF is this shit??"
http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs014.snc3/12135_337314925213_791260213_9973198_652245_n.jpg
Now this is fkn rediculous.. i still cant figure out how this ends up lodged in my tyre.
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs014.snc3/12135_337314935213_791260213_9973200_2109090_n.jpg
So anyway.. this left me at the point of needing a replacement. Mini(BMW) want stupid money for just 1 wheel and a new runflat leaves no change out of $500 for a comparable tyre to whats on there (i think runflats are shithouse anyways)
So i put an order in last week for a set of these:
http://www.showoffimports.nl/images/cache/8e1b0b630ccf92e9373b67291b22e370.jpg
Which should leave the car looking similar to this (once lowered obviously)
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u62/Bankfarter/kar/mtz6kp5.jpg
I did try to get those exact wheels.. but they ceased production start of last year.
So thats where i'm at for now.. i'll figure out what to do with the suspension over next few weeks whilst the wheels get sorted. And throw some stuff at it again after the new years (dirt bike time now).

Nice purchase, same with the rims.
Word of warning you will cry when control arm bushes need doing if you take it to Auto ripoff. The subframe is poorly designed from a replacement part point of view. Auto classic dont have the tools to doit on the car so they remove the whole subframe to do it 7hrs approx to do a 2hr job. Take it to Independant BMW service centre in bibra lake instead.

Cheers for the heads up.
I have always used either Tony @ Europa or Walter at Auto Exclusive (my uncle Marco does all their auto-electrics) for when i've had euros.
And i heard that BM Tech now tinker with the ecu's for them.. so happy times ahead!
You're spot on, Adz. That is fucking ridiculous. How on earth did that bolt get in?
New wheels will look cool.

Holy shit that car is bombed with those rims. <3!!!
taken it to the drags yet?
i heard somewhere they chop fg f6 typhoons ?
Funny story about the drags..
Jme books a lane with P-WRX for wed night a few weeks back (same night they had the test n tune day)..
Mini goes in - gets scrutineered and sits in lane.. it then PISSES down with rain and event gets cancelled.
Jme rebooks 2 weeks later - I then drive over bolt the friday before so took down a maloo for some burnouts instead.
So ive been meaning to head down ASAP to see what it does in current form, just hasnt had the fortune to get any runs in.
It has been around collie however.. and goddamn thats alot of fun. Glad to get rid of the runflats tho! Absolutely rubbish on a track - Stiff sidewalls on a FWD car = massive fail.
Well 4 weeks and still no wheels!

so when do you pull the s/c off and do a turbo conversion?
i reckon turbo one of these would go well

i agree, i think the SC adds a shitload of character to the car, and can support some decent power so why change it.
Well an update. Before xmas i needed to get the car back on the road - So with the help of Saf he plasma cut out the area of damage and welded in an alloy plate. With some linishing it was as good as new. Picked up a new tyre and she's drivable again.
No update on the wheels tho. 12 weeks from initial deposit.
Still need to decide what option for suspension im going to go down once the wheels are on the car (cant have 18s on there with standard ride height).

what rims are the ones in the pic, gram light 57 optimise?
looks great with them either way, the ones you ordered should look just as good.

They're actually Tenzo Mach 10s. A few guys in the U.S have them on their minis.. as mentioned tho - they are a discontinued model.
The new ones should look mint, have the same look that im chasing.
They actually have to be here first to look good though.
SUPPLY FAIL!
Minis are great fun to drive!
My girlfriend has an '06 Cooper S, and I just love the supercharger whine.
Mods that she's done on hers;
K&N air filter
Whiteline front strut brace
2.5" exhaust with hi flow cat.
Autoclassic were going to put the JCW tune in her ECU, but they still haven't given a price yet.
Nice ride man, I'm a fan.

awesome car mate...love what your doing with it also
do the Mini club have many meets/cruises?
would love to to tag along in my MKV GTI (not a Golf) to shoot the shit...seems the mods list/future list is very similar to what ive done or intend to do, ie ecu, intake, suspension
No update on the wheels tho. 12 weeks from initial deposit.
Thats like a unfunny joke.
3 months later and they're finally here and on car.
Very happy with the look - and the ride height isn't half bad on standard suspension.

are they 18's? they certainly fill out the guards, diameter and width wise!
Yeah they are 18"x7.5" (215/40), standard is 17"x7" so not a great deal bigger.
It'll get dumped once im back from Steep Point.

how much lower can you actually go ? looks like they would make your plastic guards destruct?
Looks just right. Don't see many Cooper's rollin' around on a good set of wheels!
seems to be a lack of burnout pics adam? are they broken :p
how much lower can you actually go ? looks like they would make your plastic guards destruct?
At least an inch - there's no camber on them yet and they tuck under - she'll be right :)
Rhys - i have a fine for 'undue or excessive noise' from saturday night for just that reason - car apparently now listed as a VOI :P
Stick to the track for now.. (or at least until peer pressure)
Thanks Huy
no peer pressure when you never come out :p
