Hey All,

I have the following symptoms on my R32 GTR:

Sometimes it will start sometimes it will not.

When it does not start, I turn the key, it goes to reds, then if I hold the key on reds, it just makes on click and goes silent. There is no constant clicking (like when you have a flat battery). Lights still are lit up on the dash.

Sometimes the car will start just fine.

It also does not make a difference whether the engine is hot or cold.

The battery is checked any perfectly fine
The wiring is fine
I have not confirmed if any relays are fine

Any thoughts guys? :)

All of above replies are correct in theory and possible, although I have never reconditioned a Nissan starter motor that hasn't had worn brushes.
This is almost certainly your problem, brushes wear to the point of intermittant starting until they lose contact with the commutator altogether.
Could also be Volt drop issue as mentioned in the other thread, although pulling the starter out and inspecting it would be worthwhile, especially since it is an R32, not a much newer R34.
Resigned from my job today so I can't help rebuild it sorry.

Think he means a relay to overcome voltage drop

I'll try process of emlimination..

1. try relay (i still don't know which one to replace)
2. try starter motor
3. if all else fails..... use the car as a very large paper weight!!!!!
