Hello all you racers !!!

Drag Combat is back and the date draws nearer.

April 23rd at the Motorplex.
Some info is up on the motorplex web site.
http://www.motorplex.com.au/calendar/drag_racing/event_drag_combat.html

The Drag combat web site is undergoing some rebuild and I am told will be up in a fortnight.

Once again Antilag.com has come through for you guys. If we get together a large number of Pre-Entries(has to be pre-paid also) we get a solid discount on the entry free. Exact pricing is TBA.

Each drag event Antilag has been to our numbers get bigger and bigger. Lets see if we can really out-do ourselves this year :D

SYK33 if no silvia, there yours to borrow :). I'll be racing no matter what though, even if its a "hire special" .....

Rx3+r32 ... bring the R32 anyhow mate. Its not about how fast, its about how many Antilag cars we can get racing at the event .... hehehe :)

Always wanting variety of cars too. More FWD's and burnout cars are needed, have to get a car in every class.

This year Cabins Drag combat is being run under ANDRA regulations, this means that the classes should be sports compact and cars having to fall into the regulations of those classes. You should find out what class your car falls into.

I remember there was talk a while ago about cars that came out with V8 engine options not being permitted, a lot of conjecture over that as it ruled out some sport compact mainstays such as VL turbos or Soarers (me!). I had a look through the rules but couldn't see anything referring to this, does anyone know if it went in?

Otherwise I'll be in, see if I can't do some 14.7 second damage to the Sport RWD dial your own ranks! Hahaha.

Would be keen to know if there is a mass entry discount as was referred to earlier.

Brockas,

I am talking with John Baremans from Drag Combat about Soarers competing, there was a rule brought in to stop guys transplating say a 2JZ into a Pontiac drag car for example.

The good news however is that there is a rule proposal currently being considered to allow Soarers and VL Commodores (turbos in both cases) to compete, whether or not this will be in before then or not I do not know. I will let you know.

Hopefully Pac will make it over this time, last year's Easter dates messed things up a bit. Archie Kawjewski (6.99/201mph) may also be racing.

I've just come back from the Summernationals at WSID (rained out unfrotunately) and saw the Pac guys, Joe Signorelli and Bill Nabhan all racing, some pretty awesome cars. Hopefully we'll see a few of them over to compete with the likes of Terry Stacey (7.99 Mazda RX7) and Brett Glover (8.7 supercharged rotary Datsun).

as i've heard from a few people, its not how fast your car is

its how consistant your times are... you could have a 17second car and win :P

as long as you can guess your dial in good.

i'd take the laser, but it wouldnt even break a 17second... which is the maximum for the event.

wadragracing
24-02-2005, 03:46 PM
That's right, consistency is what wins, so unless you are racing Pro FWD you don't need to worry about how quick you are.

I'd encourage you to come down, support of these events is what makes them great, and 15 seconds isn't too bad for a front wheeler.

On another note for Soarer owners and such, I spoke to John Baremans who runs the series today and he says there will be a place for us to race, it may be in a separate bracket because of the rules but at least you can race!

wadragracing
24-02-2005, 04:47 PM
I agree Brockas but drag Combat has aligned itself with ANDRA Sport Compact rules this year so until the rule change goes through this i the best we'll be able to do!

Entry prices are still being worked out, my guess would be around $80. A bit pricier than a Wednesday night yes but there is track prep, prizes, etc to pay for.

zeroyon
24-02-2005, 05:38 PM
Spoke to them today,

Still waiting on confirmation of prices and entry forms.

We will be getting our discount though if we get 20 + people. It will be well worth getting in early with antilag.

From what I understand the main thing there working is the class's at the moment.

So I will keep you guys posted :)

to stay on the discussion about cars that had a v8 model as option, although it is a factory option, the other option is also a factory fitted motor? in relation to the 2jz pontiac point, pontiac's never (to my knowledge) came out with a 2jz from the factory. i cant see how this argument can be justified by a motorsport body banning a car with a factory fitted motor even if a boat anchor was an option, and besides wouldnt it be able for reclassification, having a different VIN code and all? i doubt every organiser of such events would be able to tell the difference on paper with a bunch of chassis numbers in their face??

either way looks like Rob is out at the moment, but wouldnt diversity account for something?? not every day you see a rb25-det ute haha

zeroyon
28-02-2005, 11:00 AM
It may sound harsh but thats the way it is some times.

AFAIK Rob got to run on the Fords / Holdens night just gone.

If I stuck a 351 windsor into my Silvia, I dont think anyone would expect them to let me run at ford vs holden. Lines have to be drawn somewhere.

However un-fair that seems sometimes.

Please dont get me wrong by this, I plan to do everything possible to make sure the soarers and Rob's ute can run at drag combat. I do agree it would be tops to have them racing.

wadragracing
28-02-2005, 02:50 PM
OK here are the classes they plan on having:

Combat Xtreme- Open to full tube chassis import-powered competition type sedans, dragsters and altereds. All qualify. Dial your own. Three-round format applies.

Sport RWD - Open to full bodied street cars using 4, 5 and 6 cylinder and 2 rotor rotary engines with rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. Weigh breaks apply based on engine type and number of power adders . Full street exhaust and street DOT rated tyres. Dial your own format. 16 car field.

Sport FWD - Open to full bodied street type cars using 4, 5 and 6 cylinder power and front wheel drive. Minimum weight breaks apply based on engine type and number of power adders. Full street exhaust and street DOT rated tyres. Dial your own. 16 car field.

Oz Mod - Reserved for RWD cars only using 4 and 6 cylinder and 2 and 3 rotor rotary engine. No Full chassis or back half cars allowed. Slick tyres with a maximum size of 28” x 9” permitted. Weight breaks apply.

Oz 6 - Open to all Aussie produced late model (post 1986) 6 cylinder-powered cars. All qualify. Dial your own. Slicks allowed.

Sport Bike - Open to all Japanese produced late model sport bikes. Dial your own. All qualify. Street tyres only. No wheelie bars and no slicks.

ET1 (0-14.99) - Open to all cars running up to 14.99 seconds. Late model V8 powered imports accepted.

ET2 (15.00 over) - Open to all cars running elapsed times slower than 15.00 seconds.

So Soarers and RB25-powered utes can go into the ET classes. At least it is a place to race.

The whole premise of the rule was to stop racers planting import engines in typical V8 car, which because drag racing is based around the V8 in most cases, means the chassis have already been developed, there are lots of cars to buy etc. I agree with the rule really, because the sport compact drag racing scene should be different, it shouldn't just be more v8 cars but with funny engines in them.

Unfortunately the rule took in a few cars it wasn't meant to, namely the Soarer and the VL Turbo. This is being changed with the rule change mentioned previously.

By the way, here is what I mean by 2JZ Pontiac: http://www.fullboost.com.au/content/racing/drag/2004/willow_04_09_jam_1/willow_04_09_jam_1_081b.jpg

i should be able to make the sport fwd class, my 626 should be running a full KLZE setup by that time, should be able to pull down some 14's if my driving is any good

zeroyon
28-02-2005, 04:55 PM
Sounds fairly good.

One thing I dont see the point of is the "ET2" class. One thing we discuss quite often on the fast fridays is there is not much interest in 15 second cars.

Make more sense in my mind to run say

ET1 = 0 - 13.50(or 13.00)
ET2 = 13.50 - 15.5

and cut of anyone that cant run better then a 15.5.

In perth I doubt you would get more then three or four 15 + second cars turn up.

i'd take the laser, but it wouldnt even break a 17second... which is the maximum for the event.

so if my car ran a 18, i couldnt enter. My mate with a VR4 told me to enter and i was like :dizzy: . but then i learnt that the competition runs on dial in. but i dont think i want to enter, for the simple fact that ill have the slowest car there and ther isnt no prize for that this time.

Brockas
01-03-2005, 11:06 AM
so if my car ran a 18, i couldnt enter.

i think that was what he was getting at yes. The event, like most, is based around entertainment. Im not sure how many people will pay to see cars run 18 second passes all day.

Having said that, there appears to be an entire division devoted to cars running 15+ seconds.... which makes for an odd event, but i guess they know what they are doing. Also sounds like there were bugger all FWD cars last year, so they may have changed brackets to encourage more FWD cars to enter.

thats it, ppl will have to fork out about 30$ to watch, and the last thing they would want to see is 15+sec cars. fair enough u ppl want to have a go at the drags, but i think a wensday night would be more suited.

i view DC as a elite even, hence i think it should be sub 15sec cars.

BOBBO got the same thing :)

Burnout Warz is free if your racing or else its $40

Show and Shine is $40 or if antilag gets 6 or more cars its only $30 a car.

I think the increase in price is because now the racers are ANDRA Sport Compact classess, which means are classes are like Sport RWD, Sport FWD, Oz Mod, Oz 6, Sport Bike, ET1 (0 to 14.99), ET2 (15.00 over)
