Spotted it continually over the last 2 days.

Low flying funny shaped jet all over Perth. Anyone know what it is/for?

bwahaha. hardly a jet. one of the slowest aircraft in the RAAF's fleet. cant think of what it might have been. ill ask around. can you give me some more details. where exactly was it, what was it doing (circles etc) do you see it in the same place each time doing the same thing. time of day etc


edit: if by jet you just mean a plane of some description then it could well be the bou if your a NoR resident. its been operating up that way all week.

I work under one of the flight paths for planes landing and taking off from Jandakot and for a while every smoko break would see some sort of radar plane taking off. Had a huge antenna out the front and another out the tail then cables all the way around joining the wings to nose and tail antenna.

Seeing a B2 in Perth is the equivalent of Today Tonight viewers sympathising with hoons...it ain't going to happen.

The plane flying over Perth was more than likely a recommissioned SR-71. Heard the USA are restarting the Cold War and wanted to practice somewhere.

Unlikely, but not impossible! A B-2 Spirit was flown over Perth in 2006 en route to RAAF Base Darwin. B-1 Lancers have made a few appearances as well.

B-2s have operated from Diego Garcia and an undisclosed "forward operating location". Other sorties in Iraq have launched from Whiteman AFB. This resulted in missions lasting over 30 hours and one mission of over 50 hours. The designated "forward operating locations" have been previously designated as Guam and RAF Fairford, where new climate controlled hangers have been constructed - The total program cost, which includes development, engineering and testing, averaged US$2.1 billion per aircraft

Down ocean reef marina this week, and the army boys had their troopy ambulance waiting for them. as someone else said they have been pushing them out the back of the planes into the ocean for years out of ocean reef.
