its prety obvious when they set the cameras up just after the speed limit drops and not in dangerous areas lol.

I don't think the double demerits issue is revenue raising.
If someone gets stung for a booze bus in double demerits or something that you were obviously doing wrong there's no way that's revenue raising.
The cheesey cameras set up just after speed limit drops or whatever are.
maybe they should rephrase there title a bit better haha.

Double Demerits = Revenue Raising
Double demerits doesn't raise any extra revenue as the fines aren't doubled?
It doesnt need to be revenue raising though ....
more cops targetting areas during a time when then is alot more traffic on the road is going to equal more revenue then during normal times anyhow.

It's all well and good having 'double demerits', but it's applied in the wrong fashion.
They need to focus more on the moronic things, such as:
- Talking on the phone, and I know it's already under the current scheme.
- Drink driving, maybe even double the fines aswell as the other penalties.
- Tailgating, the amount of people I saw tailgating this weekend, just so they could get to where they wanted to go quicker, was astonishing.
- Running red lights.
- Failing to give way, even when merging.
- etc etc.... you get the drift.
Rather than just hone in on speeding and 'hooning', why not nab people for doing stupid shit rather than what's classed in Karl's mind as 'dangerous'.
If they focused more on the laws that make the roads safer when abided by, then it wouldn't be such a revenue raiser really, but more of a wake up call to the lazy fuckers out there with such irrational and incompetent driving skills that they need to learn how to drive correctly.
I'm also a strong believer that people need to sit practical driving exams every few years as a minimum, and be examined by someone with a harsh hand rather than some limp wristed moron who takes pitty on little old Betty. If you fail, back onto L's you go and begin the process again but without the log book (unless you're a first timer).

Dont speed, dont worry about double demerits, pretty straight forward. Time and place, driving south over easter break ppl should know better.
agree your mate. if you don't speed you wont get a fine. i hate multinovas as much as the next motorist and there isn't really a good reason to be doing 10+km/h in any built up area let alone during the easter break with the cops are having a field day sitting in bus stops.

ya double demerits doesnt affect the fine.
but during double demerits cops are out in force, and out in force means more people being picked up which = more money being brought in which = revenue raising.
so sorta right.
people should know not to do stupid shit on public holidays or double demerit periods.. if they get caught, then they deserve double demerits

Very true but you could have happen what happend to me.
I passed 6 multinovas on the way down to margz and knew that there would be heeps on the way back so i watched my speed all the way back except when i glanced to the right to perve on 2 mandurah sluts while doing 80ish in a 80 zone and missed seeing the 60 zone . There was a camera very well hidden just after the 60 zone and a round about just after it so you would of had to slow down anyway.
Can happen to anyone even while paying attention solid for 4 hoour driving then glance away for a second.
6 points and $400 what a crock of shit
Fucking dog cvnts!!!!!!!

yup, couldnt agree more if anything they should increase the drinking and driving penaltys. If your gunna get behind the wheel of a 2ton steal brick while intoxicated then you shouldnt b aloud to drive on the road at all.

Double demerits dont mean double fines.... I'm all for the demerits, will make people concentrate. However i'd like to see them fine pingpingpingpings for going slow on the freeway and on main highways like the SW highway etc.

I was fucking inspired the other morning coming home from work. We do a skid, we lose our car. Coming out of tunnel past Belmont Park/Cas there was about 30 cars on the side of road from booze bus night before. Why the fuck are their cars not taken aswell? 1 legit reason why a skid is worse than being boozed up is all I'm asking for, but I rekon something has to be done about it.
Everyone will say pollies/coppers drink drive but that doesnt mean we should just put up with it.
Petition to have drink drivers treated as hoons i say.
petition to have hoons treated like drivers would be good
somethings fucked up somewere

Do you have an amount of meters to slow down after a speed limit sign?

And there's the problem.
People who don't speed, still have accidents, as they're not paying attention or they're just shit drivers.

Never said it was the best way to fight road tolls etc, dont go thinking I'm pro speed traps, but you cant ever blame anyone but yourself if you get done, and of course its revenue raising as thats the deterrent not to stray over the limit.
This isnt me saying I drive like a prince or anything, if I hadnt been flashed yesterday I'd be out of a licence, but i dont expect them not to do it.
Petition to have drink drivers treated as hoons i say.
+1... people who drink and drive are fuktards, they put them selfs and everybody around them in danger, cars should be taken off them and there licence stuck so far up there ass it takes deepthroating a judge to get it back.

I know this.. it was the title of the story!!!
everyones a critic!
most of it was about people on mobile phones ect.. The ad for it on the radio said the premier will tell his thoughts that double demerits doesnt save lives and just causes people to lose their licenses causing extra costs ect..
obviously if I could have been arsed I would have written out I am not retarded and know demerit points dont = $$ cash..
just thought id let people know it was on as it was actually going to say that double demerits dont work!
And agree with others hooning / speeding shouldnt be the only traffic rules focused on by the coppers.. there is more danger causig drivers than the people who speed.
im definatly keen to get this partition goin...
The biggest issue I had with the weekend gone is Muppets sitting in the right hand lane in a 100 zone whilst only doing 80... i get it... it's double demerits and you wanna be safe... but seriously... stay in the left if you arent comfortable\happy doing the speed limit!

so if they put the camera's where speed limits drop or in the, as they like to call " Danger spots " why the ehll put it on the freeway
So for the 1 death over the Easter period, how many people were caught speeding, hooning, drink driving, driving without licenses and the total amount of 'revenue' brought in over the period.
Now, with all the police concentrating on the roads... How many burglaries, bashings, rapes, murders and other crimes were committed over the same period which police couldn't attend since they were down the road pointing a laser at traffic.
How can the police/Grant Dorkington justify that all those resources helped the road toll and the public as a whole? If there were no police/speed traps would the road toll be any different?

Agreed
http://www.carcentral.com.au/200808212625/safety/aami-road-safety-data-shows-inattention-not-speeding-is-the-biggest-risk.html
almost half of all accidents on Australian roads can be attributed to inattention while speeding was a factor in just 17% of crashes.
What are you doing about the other 83% Dorrington you knob
http://www.carcentral.com.au/200808202615/safety/rise-in-death-toll-rate-raises-questions-about-speed-camera-effectiveness.html
The proliferation of speed cameras, car safety technology and government campaigns appear to have had little effect on road death toll figures over the past five years. In the Northern Territory the death toll has risen by 33% over the past year and Western Australia’s figure is up 15.8% as well. Several other states have seen rises as well, with only NSW, Victoria and Tasmania showing overall decreases.
The drops in the death rate in those states have been sufficient to mask the rise in the other states when looking at the nationwide figures, but the fact that the disparity exists indicates there is still much to be done in securing road safety.

There is a whole other world of muppetry out there you may be unaware of. It happens when Perthites decide to head south for Easter. Basically they drive at 10 to 20 km/h under the speed limit until they get to one of the over taking divided lane sections. Only then do they speed up to whatever the speed limit is.
So the $64,000 question is: Where do you reckon the cops put the only multi nova on the old Coast Road on Sunday?
Yep, you guessed it - in one of the over taking lanes where people are trying to pass these muppets. :hahano:

If anyone in a private sector failed as hard as Dorrington at their job, they would have been fired a long time ago.
Luckily for him, all he has to do is ensure a steady influx of revenue.
How can the police/Grant Dorkington justify that all those resources helped the road toll and the public as a whole? If there were no police/speed traps would the road toll be any different?
of course it would be different... but the cops can only do so much to prevent things from happening, adding stupid things like speed cameras is not the way to prevent people from crashing.
