hey, i am having troubles with a profec EBC i recently installed. I have installed it according to the manual(i think), i have gone over everything continuesly but cant get it control the boost. It just boosts as normal as if it were stock, no matter what i set the duty to it still only boosts to 6 psi.

I have tested the solenoid and that is switching, but is it normal for it to be open at all times or should it be closed until it begins to spool. I am getting all the inputs as i have the pressure readings on the display. It just appears to not be getting an output signal to the wastegate solenoid.

I bought it secondhand and was told it was in perfect condition, there isnt even a scratch on anything so i have no reason to doubt what i was told.

If anyone has any advice or can think of anything i might be looking over please let me know.

PS it is installed on a celica gt4

The B spec 2's have a problem with sticky solenoids.

These are not hard to wire up.

Main unit has 2 wires for power and two wires to the solenoid along with a vac line input. It would be pretty hard to stuff that up.

The solenoid has three inputs. Make sure you have these setup correctly. One way is for external gate and one is for internal gate. Make sure the nipples are in the correct ports and you have the boost lines going the correct way.

Tuning - i dont know how you have set it up, but the first thing to do would be to make sure its ON when your using it. When its off it will still display things it just wont control boost.

Go into your high settings, change the cut in boost to 10 Psi and your over boost to 9 Psi. Set your gain to something stupid like 60, set your overboost setting to max, like 30 or whatever.

ensure its in high mode and go for a run. It should not do anything till 10 PSI, but then it should BEEP at max boost warning.

If you get that far, then at leats it works and you can go about fucking with the settings to make it work the way you want.

If you still have issues and your around mandurah ways, bring it around and we can have a look at it. If your really nice we might take the solenoid out of my car and test it in yours.

yeah definately have the ports correct and running to the correct locations.
I dont think it is the solenoid as i have tested it and it switches correctly when i tell it too. My only query with the solenoid is should it be open at idle? because it would make more sense to me for it to be closed and open when the preset boost is reached. Or does it work by opening and when the boost is reached doing a quick open, close routine to regulate the pressure much like an altenator regulates voltage.

As for setting i can set my duty to 100% and it will still only boost to the stock level and if i set my gain and start boost to max it wont spike.

As far as i can see the main unit isnt telling the solenoid to do its thing.

Should not open untill the min boost setting is reached.
