View Full Version : So the builders next door just poured cement on my car

Ok well maybe not that extreme but I walk out today to find my daily covered in concrete splatter from the builders next door.

I had no notification to move or cover my ute as I would of gladly done.

I was going to go and voice my opinion to them but thought it would get me nowhere since the damage has been done.

I'm getting sick of this neglect for my property as this is the final straw with my pool taking heavy damage over the last month.

Is there any place I can call and complain? I'm thinking that me telling them where to go might make things worse but If one of them fancy office type building inspectors come round, it may just give them the kick in the ass they need to be more respective.

any constructive ideas? (edit; pardon the pun :P )

Worksafe.

Make a complaint about it not being safe.

No one wants to see worksafe because they go through EVERYTHING!

Call the cops - make a complaint, they will come check it out (in 10 hours or so time). If they are deemed liable, go to court, get monies for damages.

GET PHOTOS OF EVERYTHING! Had a similar thing happen to me. Big blob of some kind of industrial glue and a shit load of cement splatters all over my car.

Get photos of the position of the car and the splatter etc then talk to the construction manager or building company. Dont bother with the guys actually doing the work.

Lodge a fukn claim. take photo's of everything... notify them that you need thier policy number to give to your insurance company.

no real outcome through claim other than a fkn hassle for them and a $200odd excess.

Call the building company.

Similar thing happened to me recently, tho instead of cement, it was metal fillings. We were away at the time, by the time we got back and noticed ~2 weeks later, there was spots of surface rust all over the car. Called builder, car was resprayed, sweet.

call builder, if no luck, call insurance and make a claim, then they will get the money from the builder.

Last time i treid to 'just talk to someone' 2 of his mates came running and with absolutle no provocation from my self i was told to fuck off or i would get my head kicked in.

I havent been in a proper fight for years, and sure as hell am not gonna take on 3 guys just to get my point across. So yeah, I work in an office and make decent money, so i can pay other people to deal with the morons on this rock. Morons who threaten physically get really quiet when solicitors get involved.

I work in the building game and have some experience with Worksafe, they only get involved when serious injury or death could or does occur. Getting an inspection to happen is damn near impossible. All they'll do is make sure the concretors have blue cards and public liability insurance.

Take a few pics of where your car was parked and where they were pouring the cement to show they needed to ask you to move your car before they started work. Take pics of the damage caused to your car. Find out the head office address. Go and show them what happened. Ask for what compensation you want.
Builders have insurance for this very reason.

That wont do anything, if they were brickies putting a whole bottle of dish washing detergent in the water drum would be more of a nuisance.

Some brickies put dish washing detergent in theyre water drums, It makes mortar less sticky and easier to use.
But true about Grano's, They shit everywhere!

Id call the builder, Make a complaint!

Depending on what stage the house is at theres a whole lot of things u can do to cause the tradies headaches ... Including pushing fresh walls out of level, Spraying a plastered wall with crc and soaking cement bags with water

I spoke to the supervision i work for. If the tradesman are self employed, the builder has nothing to do with the damage. The tradesman should have public liability insurance. Some builder's require you to have PLI before you work for them and other builder's dont.

Shit brickies use plastersizers like calair, really shit brickies use household detergent. Either way you use very little and it's not to code if the cement contains lime (which nearly all do). A whole bottle of detergent in a 44Gal drum will make the mud way too fluffy and a pain in the arse to use. Attempting to push a whole wall out of plumb will almost always result in the wall falling over, it takes a skilled operator to knock a wall into or out of plumb. Bit of useless info for you.

I don't work in a office, and have already talked to them/did not plan to call the cops/washed it off. Read the thread again and then discuss if you want, as the points you raised have been proven invalid.

might be worth a try calling the BRB (builders registration board)

they can sort shit out on your behalf...and builders tend to pay attention to them ;)

Office and postal address:
Builders’ Registration Board of WA

West Perth 6005 Western Australia

Tel. (08) 9476 1200

write to the building company and forward a copy to the local council making sure the builder knows you've done it too. no warnings. builders will shit because if they get a bad name with the council they can make life quite difficult.

we've had some massive fuck ups with the 2 houses built on the south and east side of our place. foundations undermined, render splattered everywhere, blah blah blah. that action worked all the time. if you go straight to head office and make sure they know that you've gone to the council as well they'll jump instantly.

They would want to get raped in court for being complete idiots, and then paying for a whole new pool plus removal and rectification of anything damaged in the process? If you think it would go any other way in court then you are sorely mistaken.

Like i said, morons who think physical intimidation works will change their tune rapidly once litigation starts. i know i am far from being fit and probably cant fight my way out of a paper bag, but the office worker thing doesnt hold much water. The guy opposite me is a captain of his football team and often talks about biffo, the guy 2 doors down is a kickboxing trainer...

Speak to the builder first, dont let it go too long get on to it asap. if it cant be sorted out between you and the builder then look at using different avenues.

Also the builder has to take responsibility for all the trades on site subbies or not.

brickies these days have enough trouble building a straight wall without the aid of soft foaming mud

think any decent labourer would pick up on a bottle of detergent in a drum and just kick the fucker over (most likely onto the mixer extension cord join).
