ok

would love to take my car to the drags/skidpan/trackday but is not registered (got a yellow sticker then handed in the plates after that)

got my hands on some nsw plates (funnily enough the plates were registered to the same model as mine)

if i put these plates on my car and i get pulled up by the cops can they even check NSW plates?

if they think is something suss can they simply just open up my bonnet and quote my vin/chassis number and will that come up on the system?? Or thats only through the DPI?

heard a couple of people have done this before and for quite sometime problem free.

im guessing the fines would be shocking if i got caught though?? ( as i would have to take off the yellow first of all/then fake plates/then driving un-reg car) though the chances of that..

though once a car is de-reg can i take the yellow off anyways?

and also im thinking, if they dont care about any of the above, think my car is a nsw car but want to issue me a yellow anyway, what will happen then??

any thoughts?

cheers.

cops sure will check engine number / chassis number if they want to.

Why not just go over the pits and get it rego'd properly? Its only ~$80 for inspection + 6 months rego...

but do they share the same system as the dpi having records off all de-reg cars. Showing that the chassis number has been registered in w.a before (engine has been swapped too)

plus iv never had a cop do that but then again i have never run inter-state plates haha.

I got given a vc commo for free before it was unregoed with sa plates. Drove it everyday to work and back for 6 months and it didnt even have a rego sticker. I parked it next to the joondalup cop station everyday when buying lunch rofl never had a problem.
They must have looked at it and though "poor c*nt is from SA lets leave him alone" haha.

Funny...until you hit someone with a car of value higher than $2...with no rego and no insurance, can't say many would be laughing then.

The trick is to know how to drive and not hit someone :P eyes on the road buddy.

did you ever get pulled up? though my car stands out a bit more then a vc commo....can they even run a plate check on inter-state plates?

i have no intentions driving it everyday, just for one off's...which im cautious about hence the topic.

Nah never got pulled up but I only drove it 5 mins to work and back each day and occasionally to the shops. It was just a grey vc with 5 speed supra box, exhaust and pursuits on so it really just looked like you average shitter vc?
As far as I know they can't get you to go over wa pits they have to ring the other state and process you through there system as theres differant laws in differant states so I guess they ignore you to an extent. I doubt they would goto the effort of checking vin numbers and shit?

if u get pulled up you're in a bit of strife
they have stiff penelties for using false plates, to deter people using them for illegal activies.

far better off driving with no plates at all.

all the states data bases are linked a lot better now then there were a few years ago. If a cop pulled you up they would have all the details of the car the plates should be on. Ive had a officer check my vin against my tempory movement permit vin #

permit is/was an idea, but getting pulled over by a cop at night coming back from the plex i think ill have a hard time convincing him the car was out for "mechanical repairs".

I believe you can get a permit for driving to and from events.

Isnt that B rego? And now you can only get it for rally use?

Funniest thing is that you are proclaiming all this whilst there are a few cops on this site...

They can still check if its regoed in another state , just takes them a few days or weeks if its bunbury cops ..

They nice cops or just outright pingpingpingpings ??

Let them prove you weren't doing repairs.

Permit would be the best way, just give 4 locations complete opposite directions from each other and you wont have trouble. At very worst if you get a fuckhead cop who doesnt like your permit, you will get fined $150 for driving out of permit and told to take it home. DPI is stupid and won't realise whats going on, ask a certain AL member who has got over 100+ moving permits for 1 car so far.

I had NSW plates on the GTR for a year but with a valid NSW rego sticker. Every booze bus i got pulled over to the side and asked 20 questions about how long ive had the car etc. Highway patrol pulled me over on the freeway countless times for "random license checks"
Every time the first thing they looked for was the Rego sticker and to see when it expired.
If they catch without a rego sticker you will get touched up hard, Driving Unregistered vehicle, Displaying Fake Plates.
Also as said before, if you have an accident you are well and truly fucked.

ahhhhhhhhh but if someone hits you it will be your fault for being on the road illegally so you will be liable for everything

Only consideration is if you have an accident, you'll be fooked.

yeah, the nsw plates idea was just as i managed to get access to some and i thought it would stick out less then running no plates.

Though if the fine is only $150 for driving out of permit (thought was alot more) then 48hour permit it is. Plus if i have an accident, i might have some grounds (depending where and what time)

I guess now the coppers are going to setup camp every week near the plex waiting for me now though so ill have to cancel the whole thing..if people were that paranoid half the shit on these forums wouldnt exist lol.

Doesn't matter if they setup camp next to the plex. As long as you aren't driving out of the locations of the permit i.e have bunbury listed as a location and they catch you in wanneroo, there is fuckall they can do.

When they pull you over just smile and say "This is my permit number officer"

After that they can suck a dick

the $12.80 for the permit is just to cover 3rd party insurance...

driving out of your permit conditions can be a court appearence if the cops is having a bad day. They consider the permit to be invalid if youre outside the boundaries/streets you have nominated, meaning youre driving an unlic'd vehicle

defintely will end up being more then 150 buck fine

i know its not a problem driving within nominated area's - its why im driving is what im worried about. I know i could drive all the way down south or up north if it was needed to be done for mechanical repairs....its the fact ill be driving back late with no evidence/alibi of mechanic repairs. - if it gets to that point of getting pulled up.

anyone have some good excuses ? :p

your mechanic was pitting for a customer or mate at the drags, he would have some spare time between runs and said if you brought the car up he would take a look over it for you.

remember to remove the shoe polish form the windscreen or story wont hold

many times on toymods ive heard of people running permits to drive cars to track/motorplex's. When police pull them over for no plates (because what cop wouldnt) they say:

"Going to XXXXX track to test the suspension we have put into this car before rego"

"Going to xxxxxxx to test the brakes we've installed to pass rego next week"

"Going to xxxxxx motorplex to test the new transmission mounts that were installed before going to pits for rego next week"

be smart, dont be a retard
