Should be good fun.
It's going to be busy (50 cars signed up).
I'm driving but I won't be competing on the Nexens this round,
Budget has me stuck on 30,000km old stocker tyres.

I think a lot of it will depend on how quickly the event gets under way.

They will save a lot of time by only running the short track, you lose about half an hour when they have to switch the track.

Brett did a great job at the last event making sure that all the cars got equal time.

Just as a point of reference, I had my entry form in about a month ago and am still 13th on the list.

If you want to compete next round, SEND ENTRY FORMS IN NOW :)

Lonewolf
25-03-2009, 08:23 PM
street series is open for the whole year to as many people are interested, provided you have the correct tyres, and do at least 6 rounds.

p.s. car's in at wa suspensions getting some more camber and a wheel alignment.
will be happy if I get through the night without breaking something....

I've had to pull out due to work trip, just checked on their web-site and it seems everyone who entered is now in. Don't know WTF was happening with the HSV club.

good night, nice to meet a few new faces.

Nexens did really well, for a budget tyre its really quite good.
car has more in it, having not done laps there for 3 years didnt help (cue ricer excuses), fact is I cant drive :D
Looking forward to the next one.

p.s. reynolds still cracking out 57's on nexens

59sec's on street rubber in a drift car!
Pretty happy with the way the car ran for the night even thought I did get only 3 sets of laps in and it was my first time driving the car since December last year. Next time I'll spend more time getting my tyres at the right pressure to try and get some more grip from the rear.

No major mishaps on track for me for the night but some clown did try and pull into the left hand lane on the way home.... HTF do you not see a day glow orange drift car.

ps. Bad luck to the dude in the evo saying hello to the wall :/

Which Evo said hello to the wall and where abouts?

grey 8mr, guy had only bought it on friday, and had an instructor in the car, first night out at the track.

came off at the start of the esses, hit the wall, spun and buried it into the sand trap. Ambo headed out and he was ok but obviously upset about the car

I just downloaded all of my footage (SD card filled up about a second after) and I think it came unstuck at the crest.

lukits01
27-03-2009, 12:14 PM
wont be the first time somebody has came off the top there
been told several things to be wary off
if you come off the crest make sure your're straight
if you're not straight, DONT BACK OFF
naturally I ignored that once and well...

Got be hugging the left hand curb as you approach that section otherwise the camber change will do exactly as the video shows. Nice tricky, underwear eating moments to be had there :D

you werent at the HSV day then :)
guy lost it just after the first corner, ended up on his side, nearly rolling it.
was an old Datto.
was also his first time out I think.

I've also lost it just after the esses as well.

I've also lost it just after the esses as well.I didn't say you couldn't lose it, just more "difficult" to get unstuck at the beginning of the esses compared to the end.

I know what you mean about that crest though. It's an underwear spoiling experience when you feel it going wrong!

I've had an instructor at AHG grab the wheel and that's bad enough let alone barbs!

how well lite up is barbs at night?

Jai Philp
28-03-2009, 08:55 AM
The vision at night around the short circuit is actually pretty good... you just cant see all the little more detailed movements in the track like you can in the daytime. plus your reference points for your vision change and that is what makes it harder to race there at night. Definitely more fun at night thats for sure.

The Esses are a really really easy place to come unstuck... and Rav wasnt the only one to lose it there on thursday night. He was unfortunately the only one to have car to concrete contact. we have a WRX go sideways over the spoon drain that is only 2m from the wall... (normally sideways + spoondrain = roll over) so he was lucky and we had two other spins into the left hander (c-red) the track was actually very grippy it was simply a case of lift off at the wrong time.

If it wasnt for the instructor grabbing the wheel of his car the accident would have been much much worse... Generally speaking we will grab your wheel if you are putting the car in the wrong spot or not turning enough or too much... its easier to show you that try and explain it while your spining coz you had too much lock on... :P

install some good hid lights before going down.

first time i been around barbs was a drift night and i couldnt even spot where the hairpin turn was.

Lonewolf
28-03-2009, 09:57 AM
yes, i need a set of HID's , stock headlights are shit normally, let alone trying to drive around a track.

28-03-2009, 11:17 AM
hrmms, is it just me or does that seem like abit of a satey issue? track should be well lit up so at high speeds you can see whats coming up.

Lonewolf
28-03-2009, 11:21 AM
its not like you cant see where to go...
Cant exactly pop a set of floodlights out there, thats more of a safety issue.

On your CAMS license form. It asks if you have vision problems.
You signed the form. Your problem.

thanks evilteddy...
haha to me just makes sense to have it lite up well to make it easier.

iluv2moan
28-03-2009, 11:52 AM
i believe that it could be lit up a fair bit better. fog lights on the outside of the track behind the barriers wouldnt be a safety issue.

your probably considered lucky to have some lights at all, there certainly isnt any seating (besides the members only grandstand)

dont they run the short track because the long track isnt lit up well enough?

Lonewolf
28-03-2009, 12:04 PM
correct, there is no lighting at all around the bowl as far as I know

Would you like them to remove all walls aswell so you dont hit them. Why not get rid of all the corners too because they could be considered dangerous! Hell, why run around the track at all because motorsport is considered dangerous!

Drive to condition and your own ability. Risk vs reward - its your decision!

agreed, i didnt have a problem either

i would say the hairpin entry would be tricky day or night, thats just how it is
