View Full Version : licenceing rb26 in 32 gtst
just wondering how hard its going to be, or if anyone has a rb26 licenced in a 32 gtst what i should be expecting
cheers
Offtopic, but I would say that if your in the market to buy, the going rate for 32 GTRs are fukn cheap these days just look at getting one of those in good condition.

Just change of engine "should" be fine. A few guys I know have had no problems going RB20 to RB30, as long as you keep it legal & smart.
That said another mate is in the process of engineering an RB20 in a pinny shell, and there making him jump thru hoops based on the original engines output :(
It seems to be 50/50 depending on inspector, my advice, get the car looking as stock as possible, make sure brakes are up to the task, and just put in a change of engine... if they need to test drive, make sure your wastegate is wide open.

Try speaking to the people who actually pass it.

mod in principle application>pre approval>engineering>licencing(pits)>rego
should be doable?
ps; insert im240 between lic and regp if the motors modified (supposedly??)

just tell them u want the engine number changed and i recon most of the inspectors will do it.

it's a betting game tho isnt it :(

if you want to change the engine number you just fill in the form
you are legally signing a document stating its the same capacity and power output however :)

RB26****** is just 6 million engines newer than RB20****** ;)

Dont the pits work it out on percentage? I thought that as long as the conversion wasnt more than a 25% increase in capacity there was no real issues in licencing.

^^ 25% of 20 is 5. thus RB25.
do 26 engine timing covers bolt straight onto the 25s and vice versa?

My bad, good call for some reason i was thinking RB25 to 26
Me/Retard = SAME SAME

yes they do. ;) and 25 rocker covers don't have RB25 imprinted on the cam belt cover.
and rb20 rocker covers will fit a 25 too, so possibly a 26...
the thing is the engine number gives away the engine type.. hopefully they dont know what RB20/25/26/30's are.
26 covers only fit on 20/25 if you run a front facing inlet plenum, timing cover only fits a 25 if it isnt running VCT.
20/25 fit straight onto 26

20/25 fit straight onto 26
sure? I tried on mine with no luck
rocker covers or timing cover?
need to change the timing cover backin plate (behind cam wheels) to suit the front cover
have seen pics of gtr's with 20 rocker covers a few times, i assume they change them becuase of breather location in the middle of the head

cam covers, pretty sure the breathers fouled on the cams- the ones I had def wouldnt slot straight on. But it was ages ago and tbh I didnt spend any time on it as it was just a quick check while the motor was out.

Did you happen to ask the owner about it? I'm sure he'll be able to help you there

so how does it work then?
I have allways been led to beleive that if an engine of higher capacity was released in the same model of car you dont need an engineers certificate providing brakes and suspension is also from said car.
so seeing the R32 was available with RB25 and thats no problem to put one of those in I thought a 26 would be too.. the downside being RWD and its alot more power to put through the rears, that is probably where the problem lies.
This is what I have been told in the past, if things have changed Im keen to be re-educated

if you want it legal download and fill out the modification form from the DPI
they send back with requirements
you do to their spec and go over the pits
