How would you rate the wolf ECU? iv allways been a powerfc person myself, I am looking at a 33 tomorrow with 250rwhp running off a wolf 3D, he said he has the factory ecu still cos the wolf is plug and play.. so im thinkn would it be safer "if i purchase the 33" to put the standard ECU back in. But keen to know if its safe to leave the wolf in there. Its got a busted turbo seal so I doubt il be able to see its full potential tomorrow.

I think I speak for everyone on this forum, when I say Wolf are the be all and end all of ECU's.

Alot of people should have great suggestions for a workshop to get it tuned too.

how much is this car?
a Wolf3d means limited tuners. (nobody wants to touch them)
and a busted turbo...
hope you are getting it cheap :)

Haha that's not a great question to ask... Wolf blows. Leave it at that.

As everyone will say, find a tuner, buy the ECU they recommend, profit.

well its got 18s, 3" system, billstein shocks, fmic, wolf for $9999
its done reasonably low kms, paint aparently is bloody good and interior is really good aparently also.. I mean 350 bucks i can have the turbo sorted with another one.. its only a 45v3 afterall, it had been highflowed but what im sorta worried about is why has the seal shat itself and is it the rear seal but its only blowing smoke after 4K on boost.. beleives he only ran 12psi but yeh im going to have a really good look at it.

no doubt i wouldnt be keepn the wolf anyway, as soon as my tax return comes through im going to dive into a power fc or somthing more current, but i agree with you, find a tuner your happy with and go with the ecu they are most comfortable tuning.

if i was to rate the r33 with a wolf from 0 to 10. it would be around -10.

If its in there and running fine why change it?
If it doesn't run well, why buy the car?

I'd be checking it's only a turbo seal that is blown that's for sure!

is the wolf ecu really that sh*t? i know the 3D wasnt great but the V500 seems to be pretty well spec'd.

is it really a sh*t ecu or do people just say so thanks to the wonderful tuning efforts of its great ambassador, Super Steve?!

the ecu itself isnt the issue, just finding anyone besides him to tune it is going to be an issue.
ecu is only as good as the tuner

my uncle runs a Wolf in his race car, RB30ET with 450rwhp, never misses a beat (although not used much) but the tune is pretty awesome and car goes bloody hard.

Have heard a lot of people having issues with consistency of the ECU, but yes apparently the newer model is good. lol @ steve comment.

Wolfs are a good ECU. I know a few people who have them and they've had no problems.
I've had Wolfs and Haltechs in cars before, and both work well. They're not a 'boutique' EMS/ECU like Motec, Apexi or some of the other brands, but they also don't have the price tag.
If it works, and does everything you need it to do, why change it?

when you say "run for the hills" are you saying this because its got a wolf or because the fact its got an apparent turbo thats cactus? im tempted to run for the hills for the fact im not going to be able to tell if its got mad blow by from the rings cos a compression test aint guna show that

if you want a 33 without a wolf, buy one thats never had a wolf pluged into it.

Bust the oil cap off when its running, and check blow-by. Not very accurate under revs, but should give you an inddication at idle.

is the wolf ecu really that sh*t?

The irony i find is when Microtech, EMS, Megasquirt even some models of Haltech and Autronic users pipe up and trash Wolf or another brand. Hahahhaa, get back in your boxes you electronic carby using bastards !.

You can have a mediocre ECU and a pro tuner and do really well.

You can also have a top name ECU and a cock doing the data entry, and you end up with a hole in #3.

Find a ECU that suits your spec, or something mates are happy with. Does it then have a repuatable tuner that knows your engine ?. If yes, then your sold.

thats why wolf is shit in WA.
No decent tuner will touch them.
