Hello everyone....

I stumbled on this community from rob at volatile customs.....

Thanks rob:)

October 08 i bought this car.
PPGA(pulsar group) went on a cruise one night that i organised and the previous owner (rosco) had on just finished the car that night to bring it out....

Well long story short it got a yellow sticker for the exaust.....and it has sat in his driveway for 1.5 years

I went n looked at the car and it look neat. got it home and got a very good friend of mine(HPI Mechanic) to do a quick check over the car. It was not as neat as i thought

It was found that i have a leaky head gasket due to the old owner thinking that the temp gauge was faulty with the new sensors/ecu....when it was not and when it read HOT it really was HOT......now its gettin a new head gasket/arp head studs and a freshen up.....cleaned etc

And i happen to find this out after it in my garage.....so i have put on the car 30km with me in the drivers seat.....and thats as far it has gone.....

So now that i find out about the head gasket i make the decision to remove the engine from the car to tidy the wiring. clean the bay as its a mess, replace all the coolant hoses behind the block.....which are VERY hard to do when engine is in

He is the list of mods when i purchased the car.....

Good luck with the rest of the build Matty. More fixing & less girlfriend IMO, your taking too long.

2LMILK
03-03-2009, 03:30 PM
its not the girlfriend that making it take to long...

its lack of $$$

she is good actually......she let me go put an engine together for 6 days straight..:)

Also i went back to auto pro morley....very good mates....

they ended up gettin me in the correct gasket and studs

for some stupid reason they sent me GTIR studs and S13/4/5 head gasket.

have you considered alternatives to the sr20 gearbox? or just keep pushing it until it blows? ;)

2LMILK
03-03-2009, 03:41 PM
its FWD....so there is no other choice:(

Lonewolf
03-03-2009, 04:14 PM

no real alternative, apart from a PAR gearset, or possibly a b15 transmission from the states (which is still a ways away from being viable in australia).

fsbk
03-03-2009, 04:25 PM
i've known these guys to put the ka24 gearbox in. it bolts up to the same bell housing as the sr and, you just replace the drive shafts with the ka24 shafts. they are a lot stronger than the stock sr20 gear sets.

2LMILK
03-03-2009, 04:44 PM
is that in a n14/15 or in a gtir...

also do you have pics etc

been done before, and no stronger.

fsbk
03-03-2009, 05:09 PM
it has been done in a n14 and n15 as far as i know, i'll see if i can find some pictures off a mate who has done it. as for it being no stronger than the sr boxes, i'd debate that. the gear sets in the ka24 were identical to the gear sets in the maxima and that car had a lot more power/torque than any factory sr ever did.

Lonewolf
03-03-2009, 05:16 PM
been done, been broken.
It may be slightly stronger, but not strong enough for a decently put together sr20det.

pretty much Kirbo!

The guys in the states have a couple of better options when it comes to gearbox's, the B15's are a shedload stronger, and apparently can take 400-500whp without an issue.
There are some guys who are looking into getting sr20 bellhousings, then adapting the N16's 70 series gearbox's to suit. Still a ways away, and still likely to be a $2000+ conversion I'd expect.

There are just small things to go, embelton engineering did the hub/brake machining, and will also redo the intercooler piping as I not totally happy with it, which ill then powder coat black.

well there is good news at last.

Got a quote from shannons for my insurance. $97 a month, with agreed value of $23000, with all the mods inc turbbo/audio/carbon bonnet/full audio system inc each individual component.

Took the car into get inspected today, only thing they picked on was my exhaust dump to cat is 10mm to low. Only has 90mm ground clearance with stock shocks.

Is getting the exh lifted 50mm tomorrow, so when i put the coilovers in, i still wont have a problem, untill the carbon lips etc go on that is:)

so all in all been a productive week, have also sprayed the cooler black and finally got around to putting front grill in, got new boot carpet and recovered it black.

Well the time has come that its finally registed

Went to pebco automotive for the inspection, guys asked why i had a 3" exhaust, as it was to low, and told them thats what came with the car.

Didn't ask for engineers report or anything, not even a noise test

Unfort i get paid monthly, so now to save for the gearbox internals, and tein SS coilovers.

Keep to hit the track soon, and the car is getting the audio system put in for motivation

How much HP were you putting out? I think I remember your first one was doing around 200?
We did our VLSD box putting out close to 250 atw.
Chucked in the standard single pegger box and never had an issue, that copped bulk abuse.

250hp on 14psi.
Casually driving from 1-2 then 2-3, then went stuff it and gave it some. Went hard up to 5k and then bang
Has Nismo LSD which wont help the issue.

Par box is about 8k all up, and 70 series is about 3K, but now i just gotta find it......and monthly pay sucks....

Traction aint to bad if you just ease the acc in, but foot to floor ya just all over the place....

Was pissed of hey casue i was gunna come for coffee Sat morning.

yeah its the torque that strips 3rd, pretty much any larger than std turbo and 14+ psi has the ability to do it
pretty sure nismo diff wont fit into a 70 series box, so will add the cost for a new LSD to the pile :)

Or stock box back in, sell, buy RWD, enjoy traction loss with ability to still steer :P

I know the feeling, We went through all the receipts of the N14 including purchase of the car - $26,000. That was after the usual mods to the N/A motor, then the U13 motor then the GTiR motor, I wasn't around after the GTiR motor got rebuilt, new ecu and wiring, but it would be around the 30K mark easily.
You get to a point when you realise you're throwing good money after bad, Pulsars were never designed as tough cars, even the car that was (GTiR) was a poor effort.
If you're not gonna race it on the track properly then get rid of the LSD, throw a stock single pegger in it with an exedy or similar clutch and be happy.

so i suppose its a bout time i update this

While a mate of mine was putting the new oil pump on, he decided it was ok not to take the head off, and crushed the head gasket.

engine is back out, and im just waiting on a new mls gasket and arp headstuds to come over from the usa.

The sub boxes didnt turn out for the way i wanted in time for PC, so they are back getting done again with a due date of december 1.

here are some pics of how the paint turned out, still has to go back to owen to get cut and polished and a couple touch ups, but considering its right off the gun, it looks amazing.

Then i started to put it back together - all i can say no is that my arm muscles are alot bigger after putting new ARP head studs in
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/keepitreal07/SSS/Respray/263721_10151337514697146_1092620210_n.jpg

And now it looks like this
http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/keepitreal07/SSS/Respray/937_10151339488712146_1121267255_n.jpg

Im slowly getting there, have to take a 2 week break as im changing shifts at work so doing 2 weeks straight.
But now its in ive decided to take the GB off to paint it the same silver as the engine.
Money has also been low, so once i get back from work, i can buy an oil cooler, get the CV joints done (70A inner cup) and put all braided fuel lines in

Once i get these small things done, it will be time to fill her up with vital fluids, and get her started.

Bout time i gave this thread a revamp
Got my 70a in with nismo 32a Lsd. What a difference this make to going through the gear. Aka not smashing 3rd.

Go the boot re done by audio precision. Has come out leaps and bounds more then I expected.

Installed the blitz cat back Wi hour the blitz mid pipe as it removes the car so I just got the biggest resonator I could in there. It's not to loud or drony but is loud when u hit 5k up.

Had another tune done by Hyperdrive motor sport. Car drive so much smoother. And I get 500km to a tank now, not the 180km I was getting.

I have another engine sitting in my garage waiting to go in. A 2871r turbo and Gtir manifold and ces dump which will all get ceramic coating soon as the dump is repaired.

Had racewars weekend just gone. That was heaps of fun and still keeped up with bart even with the 100kg or more of extra weight.

Here are some i pics
