Hey Mate,
I called past Sanders workshop the other day and he showed me the pipe work for the turbo and ran me through the concept of the build.
I love it :)
Definitley aim to keep it on the stock looking side.
The original decals and rechromed roof racks will set it off!

man never been a fan of the commo v6 but this thing is going to be a fucking monster, definately reckon you leave it looking as stock as possible, if you can find steelies that fit over the 4 pots and run hubcaps still it will be an awesome sleeper, can't wait to see the finished product in action, definately unique, not many people doing shit different these days, good when someone does

Depending on how the quality of the build ends up, I may be able to get it in a few magazines once it is completed.
Just ask Sanders about Jordan doing the photoshoots and see what he says :)
Any idea on when the big girl will be done?

Cheers,

The goal is to run a 10.9 with the l67 stock bottom end. Whether it lasts that long, who knows.

Picture of how it stands. Got the car beached on the kerb the other day. took two of us to push it off. Damm 265 rear tyres and stock guards. Coilovers at the front are how i got them. Havent been adjusted yet.

Dump Pipe Location in Guard

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/quivr/DSCF2281.jpg

hope the dump is ceramic coated!

mr_mike
19-02-2009, 05:55 PM
that dump pipe looks dam close to the wheel!! but could just be angle of photo.
Dunno if u have or not but i would remove the coilover then put a jack under the lower control arm and lift the wheel up and check it in every possible position to c if it touches.

This build reminds me of an old LH torana 4dr i think it was that used to get around. Was baby shit brown/green, 4 stock rims with SL/e hubcaps, Kirky aluminium speedway seat and a turbo 202. "APPARENTLY" it used to runs 12's

Quivr
19-02-2009, 06:23 PM
Yeah dump pipe will be heat wrapped and ceramic coated.

Tyre just touches on full lock. Something i will have to live with or run thinner tyres. It was either that or redesign my manifolds.

Ill be pissed off if this thing runs 12's. :)

mr_mike
19-02-2009, 07:44 PM
if it just touches on full lock un loaded your gonna find it touches alot more when u try to turn while moving as the tire changes shape and deflects

Drift_R32
19-02-2009, 08:01 PM
hmmm last thing you want is tyre melt and pop on the track at high speed..could u make up some type of plate cover that bolts around it after its exhuast wrapped etc? so tyre can touch that but not the exhuast itself ??

x2, ultimate sleeper.. can sort you out with some VE steelies, but you will have to take 3ml of the centers as they are 66.6ml and yours will be 69.x?
they are 16x7 but different offsets but will fit snug under the guards.. not sure about the dump though

Niva
28-02-2009, 02:19 PM
on second thoughts, might get away with spacers with VE rims to clear the pipe and still be inside the guards.

No not alot. Have been on holidays for the last two weeks. Went to the Gold Coast for one of those.

Got my R32 GTS-t calipers last week.

Atm i am just rubbing the engine bay and car back ready for primer. Need to repair the rust and get the holes in the engine bay blocked up and filled. Its slowly getting there.

Bolted the heads and inlet manifold aswell as the turbo, wastegate screamer pipe onto the motor before i went away. Will put some pics up soon.

There was a turbo VR/VS wagon at the drags, used to run 11's with ease, havent seen it for a while. Looks like she'll be a nice package, especially with a stall like that. :hit:

so thats just a 3.8L supercharged bottom end out of a vs ?? with bit of porting a reversed plenum, injectors and the turbo system? Did you use any aftermarket parts within the actual motor and do you know how the supercharged motors differ from the stock..

reason I ask is I wanted to drop a 25 in my vs ute but something like this looks way way more interesting and keeps it easy as its already in there!

do you mind me asking who built your motor and what youve actually got done to it? I dont know if it has been mentioned or not but are you using a aftermarket ECU?

Quivr
03-05-2009, 10:47 AM
Dufus - Its just a L67 (Supercharged V6 Motor) bottom end. Any l67 from a vs to vy will fit. From a vs will be easier, but a vt-vy would probably have lower klms. BYE Performance can help with wiring and conversion.

Bottom End is Stock.

ADS in Myaree port and polish my L36 (Ecotec) heads, install bigger valves, springs, guides etc. Flowed 350hp on the flow bench.

I installed the cam. Cam is a Stage 3 Intense Racing Turbo cam from the USA. JP Double timing chain. Balancer Shaft has just been disconnected. Cometic Head Gaskets, ported lower inlet manifold. I'm running Yella Terra 1.6 rockers.

I had a reverse plenum made up by a mate but we are doing some modifications to it now. Going to open up the throat just after the throttle body. Will be using a 69mm Throttle body.

Im using the factory ECU. I had kalmaker installed on the ECU for the original conversion so will just get Al Gibbs to retune.

Differences between L67 & L36 - Taken from L67torque.com

Rods - Larger rod which is stronger. The gudgeon (wrist) pin is also larger.
Pistons - These have a coating on the top of the piston. They are also larger in the dish, which drops the compression to 8.5:1
Heads - The heads on the Pre VX Ecotecs are identical to the L67s. However, the L67 heads have a hole drilled into them for the injector. This hole is drilled into a boss that encroaches into the inlet port. The post VX2 ecotec heads (from what I can gather) do not have this boss. They have a clean/straight inlet port. Any pre VX Ecotec head can be turned into an L67 head with the right drill bit and the hole drilled at the correct angle.
Balance shaft - The L67 balance shaft is weighted differently to the Ecotec
Flex plate - The L67 Flex plate is balanced differently to the Ecotec Flex plate
Harmonic balancer - The L67 HB has an extra set of grooves for a second belt (the blower belt) It is also balanced differntly to the Ecotec HB. The L67 HB and flex plate have to be used together.
Coil Packs - They are a higher voltage in the L67 compared to the Ecotec.
Cam gear - The cam gear for the timing chain has a different orientation to the ecotec cam gear. I believe I worked it out to be about 2 degrees. This differetiation retards the cam gear 2 degrees.

Other than that, they are basicly the same. the blocks are the same, the crank is the same except for manual ecotrec cranks.

ok so note to self find supercharged bottom end, get rebuilt with forgies..

Spend $ 3- 5k on heads and throttle body, then make lee make everything then smash 20 psi in..

Nice! See mine will still be my daily.. Just got hold of a little Nissan Gazelle which I will throw a stocker c18 turbo FMIC in then when thats tuned and running I want to do a mild turbo setup on my vs ute.. all while trying to finish my torry... Fucken cars.

Thanks for all your info mate. You went into a lot of detail. I appreciate it.

If your going to rebuild with forgies, just use existing motor and build that. All depends how quick you want the daily to be :D.

Im hoping to get 400hp+ with 1 bar or boost.

Lee knows what hes doing. He will probably use a factory cast manifold for one bank and custom make the other.

Sam - Hoping for 400hp with this bottom end.

vs clubby - Thanks mate. Your build is looking awesome.

Nic - hahaha nice spot. The cluster used to stick at about 80km/h. It really needed the cover/faceplate on it to stop it sticking.

We are prepping the rest of the car and will get that in primer before we start smoothing and rubbing it back reading for basecoat. Sourcing a tailgate and bonnet now as mine were rusty.

Setup hasnt been tuned yet. Is a pig to drive atm. MAF sensor doesnt like it when it flutters :P Need to always have one foot on the throttle to keep the revs up. Will install my 65lbs injectors and 3 bar map sensor this week and get a copy of a mates tune. Should allow me to do some more klms on the motor before i get it properly tuned before powercruise.

Further mods include some shadecloth on the bullbar to hide the intercooler :P

OK White Wagon is no more. Returned it back to stock and sold it. The T04z turbo didnt like not having a BOV after 6 months and cried enough. Bolt that holds the front compressor wheel on came off and wheel was chewed. Suprised it didnt go thru the motor. Sold the manifolds and turbo. Starting again.

New turbo is slightly bigger. 66mm wheel. Manifolds now come thru the front. Much much much easier to work on and install.
Fuel cell is in the spare tyre well

Car is currently getting custom intercooler made.

Holes currently in the engine bay will be filled in. New dump pipe will run within the chasis rails.

Pictures will show new mods.
