hey guys i was just wondering for my own information what the main differences are between these 2 engines which one is stronger and there trade offs ect. i have heard of good results with the 2.5ltr and seans wrx eta seems to go well with one. any others used them?

I had one being built, but yeah, there seem to be much better results out of the 2.5 with a set of forgies. I know one that is stock with forgies, running a GT35, making something like 300 kw @ wheels. No EJ20's near that. They really come alive with a big snail, but you need to the EJ257 out of the US STi, has semi closed block, etc.

Not as good no. Doesn't have hypereuretic (sp) pistons, semi closed deck block, etc I believe, but that might not be 100% accurate. Have a search on one of the WRX sites like Rexnet
paul out of curiousity whos is makin 300kwatw? grundys?
cliff, seans has a 2.0L not 2.5L...
yeah i didnt think it was 2.5l

Some bloke over east who used the same workshop I did to build my engine.
I wouldn't imagine Sean having a 2.5, it seems all reports of 2.5's with VF turbos were they had fuck all top end, but great response.

It does a 12.1 @ 111 mph or something. That mph is hardly THAT quick, and I know of a few WRX's both over here and over east doing up to 115 mph with a similar sized turbo on a stock internaled 2.0, so its not that difficult to believe.
cliff next time your out have a look under bonnet for yaself to see engine number?
does this mean that mines a 2.5 too cos its as quick as his?
boost, it doesnt have launch control either, and if it did why would it be kept such a secret?

Beau there's heaps of rumors and suspicions going around lately about Sean's car, nobody knows what to believe. They were obviously 2.5L and launch control rumors, nobody really knows for sure what the truth is, people were starting to guess and wonder and get suspicious. As for being kept secret, some people are like that. They modify their car pretty highly and claim it to be "stock" to everyone, I'm not saying Sean does that, I'm just saying thats the case with some people. I still don't get why people do that. If you've spent the money, and it's that quick, why claim it to be stock?

im just trying to clear it all up lenny is right thought if ya got sumthin why hide it id be more impressed that a car is so highly developed than claiming its semi stk and doing good numbers

dont call me a retard i just said what i had been told the retard would be the one that started the rumor but hey we still havent seen any proof its not thought
if it aint it aint i dont care but itl stop the rumors if someone actually saw the engine number...
It's the origional un-opened EJ20..............
Know this cos since he's owned it i know what's done to it. And it was stock with half a zorst when he got it

well il take it as a ej20 then as robs word i trust so ej20 it is but the questions still are raised is the forester engine still a worthy upgrade or waste of time
maybe when your aiming for 10's with a massive turbo etc.
its obvious wrx's are capable of great times with still 2l

Forrester engine will need some more mod's than the US STi motor. But it certainly is a worthwhile upgrade. You could put a brand new US EJ257 in stock form in for about 5k, plus you can run a bigger turbo than on the 2.0 so its an 11 second car there, plus gearbox!

the other problem with the 2.5l is that the steering rack hits the block reducing the turing circle. ;)
