I know pretty much jack shit about cameras besides the fact i now know the jap camera i bought for $600 is "point and shoot".
Anyway i'm looking at a Canon 300D with a "Canon 50mm F/1.8 MkII" lense.
Is this worth $400?
Can it do this "HDR" stuff?
Is it a decent camera?
I'm not trying to get all pro-spec like TJ and the other dudes but just want some better options then the "point & shoot" camera i already have.

50mm is a fairly versatile lens, but it is only a fixed length. So you will be restricted (that being said, that's all I use on my 350d because the kit lenses are SHIT) For the price it's worth $100-150 it's a great little bit of kit that most photogs who use Canon will have.
Is it a 300D or 350D ? Do you get a memory card with it?
Yes you can do HDR with it. (You need Photoshop though)

Selling my Canon 300D, along with the originally included 18-55 kit lens, battery, charger, and I'll chuck a 128mb CF card in.
I've owned the camera since new, bought from WoW Townsvile store in 2005. Amazingly I got a 5yr extended warranty for it back then too, so it's still under warranty! Unfortunately it appears the warranty cannot be transferred. Incidentally I've never had to use the warranty.
Overall the condition is quite fair. It does have a few little scratches and marks on the body. The viewfinder has a couple of specks of dust, but they don't affect image quality at all. The eye cup thing was replaced ~12mth ago with a genuine replacement due to it beginning to slide off too easily. The lens appears fine, and still works well.

50 mm is basically the same as the eye sees i believe and 1.8 is a fairly decent F-stop for night photography.
Not bad.

Offer him $300 delivered ... 128mb CF card won't store much if you're shooting RAW.
A mate at work just said he'd sell is 20D if your budget is up around $600.

Nah wasn't looking to spend anymore then $400. Might stretch a tad but not that far.
Figured it was best to post here cause i know fuckall about REAL photography.
Someone has offered him $90 delivered for the lense so dunno how id go with 300 for the lot. We'll see?

50mm on a crop body camera = 80mm so little bit more than the eye can see
Seems like an alright deal to me, the 18-55mm will do you alright for general photography and the 50mm will be good for car shots :) and heaps of other things too

should take good photos the only thing that it will lack is at high iso, so keep the iso down and you should be fine, be better then your point and shoot.

Yeah the "point and shoot" is just good for trips and car shows etc as its small and easy. It was some specialty jap bitsa-everything kind of camera and does some excellent video.
Anyway very keen on this 300D but am waiting for replies on the 20D.
So much for my initial $200 budget. Will need bag, "filter" & tripod soonish to no doubt haha.
Someone buy my spare VL to fund new turbs for torana and camera gear :D

Have a 20D i can get for $350 plus post with no lense but with all the other crap or a 300D with 2 lenses and the reason of the crap for $400 plus post.
What should i get?
Only "bad" thing about the 20D is that its done 25k-30k actuations... does this mean its on its way out soon?
Advice please :)

Well i seam to have missed out on the 300D so is the 20D worth it?
Some people around the photography world are fkn strange... thank fuck theres some normalness here.
from memory, the 20d shutter tends to crap itself at around 100k actuations... get it cheap enough and it might be worth a shot...
