out of personal experience, 2 12's is better. if you listen to rock/DnB deffinately get the 2 :) if you listen more to Rn B or hip hop kinda music stick with the one 15. i have heard the 2 L7's (12's) and they go very hard!

Why do people always associate 'tight' bass with smaller drivers? It all comes down to the design, volume and construction of the box. All those numbers on the side of the box the speakers come in mean something. They are engeneering cues on how the sub box should be built.
Now in your case, 2x12" Kicker subs will have more surface area on the cone than a single 15", hence will allow for higher dB. But you will find that the sub box required will also be larger, taking up more boot space. One reason people fit 12" subs is because there is room in the boot when they are vertical, same cannot be said of a 15" sub. There's usually not enough room to make it aesthetically pleasing and leave some usable area in the boot. Apologies for the small whinge :)

Kickers are designed to go loud... Thats what they do.
However, if you want any sort of clarity to your bass I would highly recommend the Power Series Rockford Fosgate 12" or 15"
To give you an idea, off the same power, in the same brand/size generic box (one had square hole for kicker, the other round like normal subs), I measured a loudness difference of about 2.5 db in favour of the Kicker over the Rockford. A noticable difference, but the Kicker was pushing pretty hard and had very little control of the shorter bass notes. The Rockford, while not being quite as loud as the Kicker was in control the whole time and was able to simultaniously reproduce both long & short bass notes with clarity & definition, instead of sounding like a continual blurred bass note.
We sell both brands, so I can give you an unbiased opinion on both products, but in my books, the Kicker is designed for all out loudness, while the Rockford is designed for listening loud.
If you have an amp already installed, feel free to drop by the shop and we can trial a couple of subs for you in your car to see the differences.

Easily.
But do you want any room in your boot for anything else?
I'd go clarity & boot space over sheer volume anyday. Mind you I hit 144.8 with two 12's in my sedan on termlab. Just have to build the right enclosure.

Agreed. Swapped from 2 x L7's to 2 x Power Series P3's in my fairmont & the clarity difference was very noticable, the power difference not so noticable. Fosgate's are really good subs imo

Ive heard a setup with 2x 15inch solo L7's and i wasnt really that impressed to be honest...
From what theyre saying about the rockfords id go with those. The only rockford fosgate product ive used is an amp and its very, very good imo.
Though if you still wanted to go kicker use the 2x12's they should sound alot clearer than the 15. I even wasnt impressed by 2x L7 15s so.. i duno.

greatest sub set up i have experienced was twin Orion 15's...a certain member on here used to rock em back in 98' - devastating bass with clarity

Hi Dan,
You have heaps of room in the boot of a VX, but how much are you willing to loose?
The Rockford 12" require 0.95cu ft of internal volume in the enclosure (plus magnet displacement) to give the best balance of SPL & SQ.
The Rockford 15" need 1.3cuft to do the same.
The Kickers require 1.4cuft (12") and 2cuft (15").
We can build any one of these setups to take up as little room as possible. The dual 12" with a big amp would be my pick out of the bunch... the dual 15" setup would be well over the top, but still managable.
We could also build you a custom tyre well installation for the dual 12"... This will take up next to no room from your boot and you can still fill the boot to capacity without damaging the subs. Email me and I'll send you some pics of VT-VZ tyre well installs.

Rob.
I was going to install 2 12" L7's in my car, after hearing 1 I decided to sell the other one. I suggest you buy 1 12" L7 first and if you still need more bass then buy a second one. They are awesome subs and Im running mine on a very low setting and it still puts out too much bass.

Dude!
Now that is stepping back!
It was that long ago :(
The old 808 used to pump hard and sound the goods too.
Best system I have ever owned - way ahead of it's time too :)

I'm running 2x 12" L7's in my VT and designed the ported box myself after a quick chat with Stefan from custom car sound. I'm running them off a ZX750.1 mono block which is without doubt underpowering them but is more than enough for me! They are a pretty violent sub and you can hear them from forever away! If you were to buy two i think you would be happy with them.
Ive also got the Kicker Tech Papers folder here which has alot of enclosure suggestions in it if you wanted i could probably post them up.
