Diagnosing the issue is easy - upon cold start the new bunky emits a screeching noise, sometimes for a second, sometimes for 10.

But what causes it and how to rectify it. I cant stand the sound.

Car is a 1993 Lancer 1.5l

my corolla does this as well, not very loud so its not a big problem for me.
but im guessing belts as well.

ill never fix it though, cos its a bunky pos.

TJ, try some WD40 on the belts... works with foulcoons when they have screechy belts

just a temp fix though

Belts appear tight.

First car I've ever had do it, wasnt sure if it wasnt a pulley or tensioner etc.

if they are too tight, then they need some lubage!
but since your dad owns an autopro, ill take your word for it haha

Hahaha nah auto-masters.

Plus I had a killer squeal couple weeks back the belt grip stuff works good but tension the belt up a little more shouldnt need it.

Should be about 10mm deflection in the belt when you push down on the middle of the longest length if that makes sense. Any less, too tight any more, too loose :)

Yeah makes sense Mark, cheers.

If the tension is good and they are still noisy check that all the pulleys are aligned and theres no sideways movement in the belt, if thats all good you prob just need a new belt/s.

Or if its the ps/ac belt, just chop it off like i did.

Bunkies ftw

I agree, however PK or ribbed belts do this when they wear, they sit into the grooves and bottom out on the pulley. Looking for shiny marks in the bottom of the valleys..... If not.... lube that sucker up

Check the aircon compressor isn't leaking shit all over the belts. That's is you have aircon in the bunky. Had that problem before. WD40 will fvck your belts also

Yeah didnt think of that, coolant will also make the belts squeak. But if it was a foreign substance on the belt making it squeak the noise wouldnt go away it would be constant.

Has air con which works well, doesnt seem to be leaking any fluids.

Ill have a look this arvo after work.

Belt grip works on some cars but not others, used some on the VZ and it sounded like someone was being murdered in my carport, went and got a new belt, all quiet.

Sounds like slipping belt. If its a bunky just use belt-grip or equivalent product.

For nicer cars (as a general note) windex apparently works awesome, and doesn't make a mess. Apparently it's what all the mining boys use on the large scale belts for mechanical equipment. Worth a try if you have it lying around at home.

I had the aircon compressor replaced on my VZ as it was leaking oil onto the belt. The noise was intermittent and drove me bloody crazy trying to work out what it was. Holden just replaced the belt and a week later went back to squeeling. Eventually found a very small oil leak in the compressor which was enough to make it slip every now and again. The worse the leak the more slip you get i guess! I was also told by Holden not to put anything on the belt as it would wreck it instantly? Don't know how true that is but I think belt grip would be fine!

Just put some candle wax on the belt and it will stop sqeeking

Those serpentine belts are sensitive to lots of stuff, degreaser farks them up completely. I used belt grip on mine and made it 10 times worse.

Ya thats my method. Has never let me down. Just carefully hold a candle on it while its running.
