FYI guys
Dear Business Partner,
As you are aware we have recently been experiencing problems with inconsistent supply of Vortex 98. Unfortunately, BP have advised us again that due to refinery related issues that they are unlikely to be able to supply any further V98 until at least next Wednesday. Despite Caltex having received a small release of product ex Mobil today, Caltex and alternate supply points have now stocked out.
We assure you that we are making our best endeavours to resolve the supply issues at the earliest and again apologise for the inconvenience.
We will keep you aprised any any developments regarding the resumption of V98 supply as they come to hand.
So is V98 same as BP98- except when BP can't supply it to them?
Have heard heaps of stories about varying quality of 98 fuels.

U98 and V98 both come from same place but are mixed to different recipies. They are not the same fuel, just BP have a refinery in perth and Caltex dont.

BP's U98 has a minimum octane rating of 98 where as Caltex V98 is an average ocatne rating of V98. I used to use V98 over U98 but have changed back to U98 due to the quality issues of V98.

interesting. As a base U98 & V98 are exactly the same product with the exact same octane rating, the only variance is the cleaning agents that caltex add to make it a different product, this doesnt change the octane rating.
So if you got a batch of low V98 then the same batch of U98 would be low as well

The cleaning agents must affect combustion. For example, if I run my Territory Turbo on U98 and tune with an AFR of 11.5-11.7:1, then run V98, the Territory runs over half a point leaner on the AFR. This is why it pings on V98.
Another reason I won't use Caltex is they don't take Motorcharge.

That's really strange, as mine is exactly the opposite (same figures too).

Well something is a miss.
As when i rang caltex and BP about there fuels the Ron rating was the same at 98
BUT
the mon rating of the V98 was lower then the U98.
So can't see how they can be the same fuel if the mons different.
Someone is wrong !!

If BP is having issues supplying V98, but they're supplying U98 no problems?

If BP is having issues supplying V98, but they're supplying U98 no problems?
They're prioritizing there outlets(BP) over their competitors wholesale commitments... if they don't like it they can build their own refinery lol

It depends on which RON they are quoting though. If they are giving you the average RON, then it just might mean then the real RON (or F1 as it is known in testing circles) variates as much as the MON.
IE U98 has RON (F1) of 99 and MON 0f 97 then the RON as quoted for commercial properties would be a RON 98
V98 could be RON (F1) of 100 and MON of 96 and the average RON fquoted for commercial use would still be RON 98

It depends if your car is tuned to run on (good/better) 98 which previous holdens aren't. We've tried different fules with the international and they is no winner or really any consistency.
On the 6 or so different euors between 7 and 1 yr old we've had over the past years and each performs better on U98 than V98. Even when you factor in any difference in cost between U and V98 (or for that matter 91RON) BP has also produced better numbers.
Quote what stats/numbers you want, that is what we have found.
U98 in subiaco has run out :(
