What the fuck!!!!!

Just been thumped with my land tax bill, can think of better ways to spend several thousand...

209% increase on last year which itself was over 100% increase on the year before.

Have spoken to a mate who was involved with valuing the land and there is a lot of people screaming about it, partly councils being greedy and property value going sky high. It should reduce significantly next year, still some have been charged astronomical amounts.

Many people I have been talking to are writing in letters of complaint however unless they get an overwhelming amount that will go no where.

Others that own/lease commercial property cop a barbed wire enema??

Problem is the reviews have to be based on the previous years findings and sales/rental evidence. With the way the market WAS, its reaming time in comparison to what they are worth now.

Sadly it's a fact of life that cannot be avoided and must be paid.

rent.... ;)

With commercial property the tennant pays all rates and taxes.

Yes it must be paid but many did not allow for such an increase their budgets.

My parents neighbor gets hit with 25k+ each year for land tax/rates, since they rezoned his property. Sucks considering he just gets by running his dairy. Basically trying to force him to sell.

Not necessarily, a lot of the time land tax is a non-recoverable expense.

Although you can't recover it from the tenant, you just work it into their rents, apportioned per square metre.

Client's land tax for commercial properties (like 30 which means he is grouped for land tax) went from 100K last year to 240K this year - he is not happy.

My rent at one of my premises just went up $95 a square - I have 114 squares there.

Landlord must have seen his land tax bill.
