Not sure if any of you guys follow this form of racing but im sure if you jumped in one of these things for a lap you wouldnt waste your coin on drag racing or black track. :uhh:
Its pretty huge in USA with the popular likes of Baja 1000 etc, but its got a decent following here in Aus. Finke is probably the most well known of the races but theres a heap of events in WA through Western Desert Racers and WAORRA.
Trophy trucks in the USA are punching near on 800hp and $1mil in cost (thats not including the helicopters, pit trucks, crews etc), so its not a cheap sport in the top end. Teams like Robby Gordon, Herbst, McMillen etc run HUGE money setups.

My uncle has built a trophy truck based on the VY SS ute.
All custom gear (even bought a VY Ute shell to have the fiberglass panels fabricated).
The cost of that thing to date would build you a new house in a nice suburb.
1 right off into a tree...and its game over.
Cross fingers he never flips it like some of the guys do at baja :squint:

$120k USD ....... MMmmmmm

Good friend of the family made the trek across to USA to represent Aus...

i went in Adam Trewellas (Borneo's) STi EJ20 powered buggy once up in Brookton thing was fuckin insane, 5th flat out pullin about 6000pm, no speedo so guessin close if not over 200kph and we hit a jump. Thing just sailed thru the air then came down smooth as anythin before a huge off camber slide. I was shittin!!!

Love the look of trophy trucks, found a US site that sells complete fiberglass Hilux/Tacoma front ends with the big 4" wide flat top guards. would cost me about $1500us just to buy panels.

Would love to drive any of the serious off road racers whether it be the trophy trucks or the class 1 buggies. I actually prefer the buggies these days, although i doubt there is alot different between the 2 classes. Well other than the body work.

The DVD series called Desert People is all the off road racing. Awesome to watch.

That Troy Herbst clip is awesome. Watching it fly over those hills and dips is wicked.

couldnt seem to find another relevant thread but this weekend for those interested is Finke....

they should have a stream on their finkdesertrace site.

Also toby price is aiming for the double (well he is mad enough to compete in both... has enough time from when the trucks leave early in the morn to complete leg one then copter back to the start line for his bike start then do the same on day 2....

will be pretty amazing if he finishes both, has been done before but prob not with high place that he will be aiming for.. also going for 5th win on the bikes this year as well which I think only one person may have done in event history.
