Well i just got back from shelter bay (steep point).

Talk about blowin its tits off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Managed to get out a few days and get a few snapper
Talk about right place at right time with my good camera!
Well on thursday we were at camp sitting around having a yarn when i seen a landcruiser hammering throughh the dunes closly followed by police .
I was thinkin " Woah! a pusuit!!!

10 min later i see this old boat coming into the south passage. 5 min later i see a airforce orion swoop down and get about 50-100 ft above it.

The poice and customs came up the beach to us and ask if out dingy was ready to go if needs be haha. Must of going to borrow it haha.

20 min later a big tri hull cat came hammering up and got against it and stopped them.

They towed it into shelter bay were it was out of the wind and chop. Made for some great shots for the last few days :)

Pity all they will get is a slap on the wrist. Our laws are a joke to them, getting caught or getting through is much in the same, its still better than where they were fleeing from. Need to be harsher on the boat owners/smugglers, once theyve put them in detention need to sink their boat then make them a permanent roadside rubbish collector.

Could be too late, but you should definitely contact the paper ASAP about your photos as I was reading another forum on the weekend where they recently paid a Perth guy $200 for a simple photo of an ambulance driving down the freeway. The photo was nothing special but they needed it for a story and they asked him how much he wanted for it, could have probably asked more for it.

You kinda gotta feel sorry for them when you think about it. Not many of us would ever be desperate enough to make a voyage like that..

While its not really rough, they dont seem to plan for tropical storms, their boats are hardly seaworthy, they probably pay some bloke their life savings (and he'll know they will get caught), many probably get sick and when they see land they'll swim through some seriously dangerous water. Tiger sharks, coral reefs, cliffs being slammed by decent waves etc.
