A YOUNG woman was killed by a car after trying to rob a Mirrabooka woman who stopped to give her a lift in Embleton last night.
A 30-year-old driver noticed the girl hitchhiking along Tonkin Highway about 10:30pm and gave her a lift, but as the pair travelled south and approached the Guildford Rd overpass, the girl threatened the woman with a pair of scissors in an apparent attempt to rob the woman.
Police say a struggle developed between the two during which the driver was able to take the scissors from her attacker and throw them from the car before stopping in the right hand lane.
The girl then grabbed the woman’s handbag and started to get out of the car, but was struck by a Ford Falcon wagon that was being driven by a 37-year-old man from Ellenbrook.
The young woman, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene.
