Not much on there for canon boys... 70-200mm F4/L IS USM, 10-22, 17-35 L series F2.8, EOS 1d Mk3(1200 start bid), 30d body, battery grip, 300mm F2.8 and some other shitty stuff plus some flash guns .etc

Cheers! I am definately goin to check it out, thanks for the heads up :)

I think that Canon 300mm f2.8 could be a great bargain. Im keen on the Nikon 200 f2 but considering its and $8k lens i dont like my hopes of getting it cheap :(

From what I could see that 300mm F/2.8 is an older version? Picture doesn't look the same as Canon website.

What sort of outlay for would someone be looking at to start off with photography as a hobby? For example what sort of $$ are you guys in the photography thread using? Not after anything mega pro, but dont want to be uprading in a months time.

buy a cheaper body and spend more on the glass (lenses)

2nd hand 350d with L-series glass will take better shots then a 50d with a kit lens.

$10K if you're TJ, around $5K for me (i haven't upgraded from the 350D, haven't seen a real need too).

$2K will get you started though with a Canon and an L-series lens.

Aah that sucks about the old mount for the 300mm f2.8. One of the things going for Nikon is they stuck with the F mount so can use a lot of the older lenses which still have awesome optics.

Like the guys have suggested theres no point buying a pro body, its better to spend the bulk of your money in lenses/lighting equipment as you will find out soon enough that the bodies are in fact the cheapest components and get superceeded every couple of years. Lenses you can have for 20+ years and they are still pro quality.

The Nikon D80/D200 are on that auction list and im sure could be had pretty cheap so that wouldnt be a bad place to start.

I'm using a $900 Sony A200 that came with a 18-70mm and 75-300mm lens.

It doesn't take the best pics in the world, but until you're as skillful as Jan/Will/Franz, there really isn't much point forking out any more.

Or $1500 for a Canon 450D and a decent 17-85mm lens.
