Chris and I met up with Kye tonight and did a shoot on his car.
Definitely not pro-level, but we just wanted some experience with our new cameras at night. Haven't really used mine at all at night, and Chris just bought a new lens so most of his stuff was shot free-hand.
Here's some of my better shots:

That last one I was messing around with HDR. Pretty neat stuff, will be practising that a lot more then trying some decent landscape shots.

Fourth shot down in front of the wall is awesome, looks just like something you would see in any import magazine.

prob not the best weather for it trying to keep car clean in rain ... the ideas and setups for the pics are cool as shit ... but the car needs to be cleaned and run a few sprays of 5 minute detail over it ... and a can of tyre shine and a rag Kye ... shouldnt be hard to clean tyres when they are at eye level for you :) looks like you been driving out in the pines ... if car was cleaned those pics would look at home in any Import mag ... top shit Brockas !!!
2nd pic would look tits if it didnt look like he was running white walls
Oh yeah, agree 100% car looks like a bucket of crap.
Last minute decision to go somewhere and take photos so the car is filthy.
Next time proper wash and detail, then photos

+1 on the fourth shot down being mint.

Looks Great Brockas.
Might I only suggest some off camera flash or lights to fill in the shadows, particularly in the 5th and 7th, it also brings out the colours in the paint.
I've used other car headlights before, HID's can be close in white balance to the fluros generally used in underground carparks.
Graffiti shot ftw.

Agreed, we got half way to freo and I realised I'd forgotten my torch. The 5th and 7th are my first attempt at HDR (the lighting was really biased on one side of the car), and they didn't turn out the best, but I'll keep trying.
Hardest thing about last night was finding 'white' light to shoot in, the yellow light sucks balls when trying to shoot at night.
Chris and I will probably be heading out every week or so to practice, so any advice given we'll taken on board :)

Is that fluid from car or elsewhere

haha its water, just behind the car is a ramp to an outside carpark and the water had run down.

Good work for a first time out. I agree with the others, i like the graffiti shot the best.
Like someone else suggested off camera flashes are almost a necessity when it comes to night work. Some people can use other light sources and a longer exposure to "paint with light" so its an option for those who cant/dont want to use flashes.
If the light you are shooting in isnt giving you what you want adjust the white balance accordlingly, then sort the RAW out in photoshop later. Im not sure about the Sony's (but id assume it to be the case) but Nikon/Canon both allow you to do a preset white balance, using a custom white balance may help deal with fluro/yellow light.

Cheers dude.
Thats exactly what I had to do with the graffiti shot, the white balance was shocking, so adjusted it on the camera and cause I was shooting in RAW could adjust it again in photoshop.
None of the shots I took are even really worth posting IMO. Not particularly pleased with how any of them came out. The scat coat on the car is prevalent in nearly every photo. Poor lighting and shadows were the biggest issue. Just having a dig through and might post a few up anyway.

The only time photoshop can't really help is when you have two light sources of very different colour temp.
Keep this in mind when you use your torch next time, because most torches (including Halogen) are around 3000K compared to 6000K of the fluorescent lights in carparks.
As above, HID's are great to light up the scene as most are around 6000K, if they are too intense move them back or turn them on briefly while the shutter is open.
Cheers guys.
