think pros only charge you 50 bux to remove
surely they dont use razor blades - esp on the rear with heating elements

Steam is the win.. But yeah I think its not to much to have it removed.
Don't know if this'll help but when I got a spare window to replace mine that got smashed and it had tint on, all I did was pour hot water on it and tint peeled off easy. So I'd imagine steam would do a fair job of it. Keep in mind that the glass was off the car when I did it.
shitty tint usualy means even shitter glue behing it.
surgical razor blades is the easiest way to get the glass back to normal with no glue left over (and the glue usualy stinks) on the side windows. alot of care and making sure the blade is in good condition (can go through as many as 5 blades PER window)
the back window is a bit more dificult becuase of the demister's in the glass which are on the surface.
getting lots of heat into the glass is the best way and then just pull the film off with care.
then using a course sponge and a removing/breakdown agent with water, rub away the glue. it takes ALOT of elbow grease but is the easiest way to save the demisters..
if you dont care about them than just rip it off and use a metal scourer to rub away the glue with the break down agent
or just pay a pro :)

can he justify spending 50 bux on a car he paid no more then 300 for but :) (assuming this is for the new bunky)
Indeed it is for the new bunky, but id like to clean it up to avoid a sticker.
Better to spend a little then have to chase another bunky next week!
fire up the steam iron & give it hell :)
give scott@tech9 a call, he should know the best methods since he did window tinting for a while

when my mate did it,
i think he used stanley, but just got a good run and kept pulling it and the whole thing comes off..
think u just need to be carefull with the rear,
mate did it and pulled off the heating thing and had to get a new rear window $$..
Use a steamer or steam mop to remove it, then use some goo remover to get rid of the left over glue, did that to mine and worked perfect.

Eucalyptus oil is good for getting rid of glue/sticky bits left over if its old shit tint.
smash windows and then replace them with stock non tinted items.
No worries!
Ill "remove your tint" for you tonight then :D
Wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Years ago had a crack at removing the Jap tint from my car with a steamer and there was huge amounts of glue that just wouldn't budge. I'm sure it depends on the tint and how long it's been on the car though. The tint did come off but it was a pingpingpingping removing the remaining glue.

i work with the novus and instant windscreen guys and all they do is just use a steamer/lunchroom kettle and boil it can even use a steam iron they are the best i reckon and do a awsome job 2 but if ur going to tint the windows again i would get them to do it becoz they remove and add new tint for the same price and dont charge for the tint removal as they would if u dont want it on no more gl tho
well hot soapy water did SFA
for me i could blame it on being a clueless karnt, but with me a mate trying id just say its fail.

Removed tint from my front window by picking at the corner then just peeling it all off.. Just gave it a quick clean over to get rid of the remaining glue shit.. Granted tint was on for a week max.
hair dryer and nail polish remover, and a metal scourer...
heat it up first then add the polish remover, and start scrubbing...

I've seen it done using a spray bottle and black plastic, similar to garbage bag plastic. The idea is to spray water on the film, then cut the plastic to a mould the same shape as your glass and place on wet film. You need to do this outside in the sun. The water trapped between the film and plastic heats up and sweats, allowing the film to peel off. Very easy, takes 10-15 mins and doesn't require razor blades.

that would have been peter my uncle haha pretty sure he's the only one in perth doing that.
it softens the glue allowing you to peel the tint off and usualy the glue at the same time saving alot of hassle but doesnt always garanty the glue to come off.
the plastic is a bit thicker than garbage bag's its liner stuff you get from hardware stores for gardening.
