View Full Version : Ben Cousins playing AFL again ... your thoughts ?

So ...
I know there a few footy fans on here and a lot of people that have an opinion on everything so im curious to think what everyones thoughts are … especially Freo supporters thoughts considering they are among the most intelligent of all footy supporters !!
Personally … as a Football player I think he will go down in the books as one of the Greats to play the game … his presence on the field as a leader was really brought out in the open when he was suspended and subsequently fired and we all sat back and watch the West Coast Eagles fall to bits ... it was clear that the team relied heavily on Ben as a player and leader even tho Chris Judd was the captain at the time of his demise.
Off the field I couldn’t have given two fucks if he had raped an elderly lady while doing drugs and selling pirated dvd’s … im only interested in what he did as a football player … im a football fan … that means im a fan of the football game and the players on the FIELD … im not a fan of life and people choices off the field … I followed him as a footballer … not as a member of the public … like I said … off the field I couldn’t give two shits what he did off the field just as long as when he put the jumper on he played his heart out and gave 110% … in every case he did !!
I think Trevor Nisbett needs to have his head smacked in and then fired and the Eagles should have given him a 2nd chance and let him finish his career off where he started … seems like it was only him that has been completely against him coming back … past and present players and coaches all voiced there opinions about his return and pretty much all of them were for him to come back to the blue n gold … all bar that pole smoker Nisbett. It’s a shame … in a world where we preach everyone deserves a second chance he wasn’t given on in this case.
Your thoughts ….

everyone deserves a second chance...all the best to him.

I reckon he should be allowed to play. He's a talented player, and probably learnt his lesson already, so as long as he doesn't fuck up again, I reckon it's a good thing.

Everybody makes mistakes, let him have another go...he's under some pretty strict testing so he knows if he puts one foot outa line he's gone,
Goodluck to him

I am all for Ben Cousins getting another chance.
He is a fantastic player who just made a few bad choices in his personal life.
Quite simply he is not the only AFL player that does drugs....he's just one of the few that got caught.

Couldn't have said it better. Who the fuck is the public to judge him by his off field antics. He IS one of the greats to play the game, and if people think that previous great players were not into recreational drugs at some point...then you have to be fucking kidding me.
I wish he would come back with the Eagles, but in reality, Nisbett (the pingpingpingping that he is) won't let it happen. Which shits me to tears, as myself and many other paying members and supporters want him back. So I don't see why one single faggot of a human being, has the right to judge.
I guess in some ways he did let the team down with the off field antics, but he delivered so, so, so much more on the field - so it would be fucking rude to suggest he never deserves to play for the Eagles again.
As for other teams, it's gonna kill me to see him put another guernsey on. And watch him absolutely carve up the field, especially against the Eagles. But fact is, I'd rather see him playing football (even if for another club), then let his talent go to waste.
I didnt give a shit that he played while he was higher then Rick James on a bender.
I did give a shit that they removed his right to play because of it though.
Private lives should remain that way, and let the man do what he does best.

Good luck to him.
I hope he goes to Brisbane and not St Kilda.
Melbourne wouldnt be the best place for him to be.
i am a big fan of Bc, but it has to be said that this wont be his "second chance"... he has had several run ins. having said that, i agree with what everyone on here has said, it would be great to have him back at west coast so he can be close to his family and friends, but i cant see it happening. The eagles would look like major hypocrites!

19-11-2008, 10:36 AM
yeah only becuase of trevor nisbett ... he is the one that came out guns blazing making promises of him never returning ... fucking clown.
If he goes to Saint ill be stoked ... Saints are my 2nd team :) ... soon to be 1st :)
but i agree its not the best environment for him ... i.e Michael Gardner as a team mate again

19-11-2008, 10:49 AM
i dont want him to become another wayne carey... 1 year off and going to another team may tarnish his outstanding football career
he is stupid for what he is done, but the afl are giving him another chance under strick guidelines. personally i think he might actually not play because he wont be able to pass all the testing...
his "mates" have got him into this mess, he hangs around with some really dodgy people. best thing he could do was leave perth.
i reckon he's still using. he withdrew from mundine promoted fight because he had to submit to a drug test. recently cut his hair really short to avoid hair sample drug testing. bitchn an moaning about having to take a piss test 3 times a week, if he ain't using then why would this be a problem?
singh
19-11-2008, 10:51 AM
I wish he were playing for the Eagles again, but whichever club he will be at he will be at the top again no doubt... Until he gets stung for drugs again lol... I know he managed never to fail a drug test at the Eagles, but with the AFL's strict new policy (like lot of urine tests, hair etc etc), I don't think he will last more than a season.

Second chance? Pretty sure hes had more than enough of those!
At the end of the day I couldn't give a shit though haha, don't follow footy

yeah i was at hip-e club about 6-7 months ago when he was here, he was with nunzio and a few other hi-profile people from perth, i ended up going to the rock after where i met up with nunz / few other people i'm friends with who ''own'' the rock and cousins was in there...
But the guy deserves a second chance imo

He has had more than 1 or even 2 chances. Running from the police drunk, involved with underground figures in Perth, all of which reflect horribly on the club.
At the end of the day the club is a business, you can't have players doing drugs off the field and expect the public/media to slam the club for it. The eagles did what they had to, drop him off the list and the AFL did what any sport league would do and drop him as a player for doping.
The players are role models whether they like it or not.

the problem that he's going to have is getting around the sponsors. i'm sure a lot of the clubs want him but the various sponsors don't want to be forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars to have their names plastered all over someone that a big slice of the population thinks is a dirty crack head.
i reckon it'd be awesome to have him back at west coast but i can't really see it happening.

He is a fucking drop kick.
I dont care how good he is.
Good on him if he has sorted out the drug addiction.
being a public figure and role model to people - he has to be given the chance again.
or else they would be portraying that once you have been on drugs and "get clean" that you wont be given another chance in our society.
if they didnt do the whole 'if you get clean, we will give you a go' then why would anyone want to give up drugs??

Probably one of the greatest players to play the game! And I HATE West Coast so there is none of that one eyed byass from you dickhead West Coast supporters!!!!
Fukn oath he should be able to play again, he was never convicted by the AFL. The new rules they have put on him are bullshit!

awesome player would be wrong to stop him playing again.
I heard that aus is the only country that tests sports ppl for recreational drugs? and even on the off season.
that would suck if its true. if you look at most of the american sports... Cokeheads... and no one gives a fuck. hell even steroids they love that shit
if he goes to the saints he will be reunited with his old mate Mr Gardiner
hmmm will be interesting to see what happens there
Ben who?
exactly!!!! his a has been
his got nothing more to offer, cant wait for his 1st game back where he pulls a hamstring in agony.
im sick of all the media talking him up as well and trying to get peoples opinions, that no one cares about. I love watching the eagles supporters who are bagging the club for not re hiring him LOL. His the reason why judd left and other players at that club dont respect him one bit.

Do you play soccer?
Peoples opinions that no one cares about? Crackpipe down. Of course theres a fucking load of people that care, thats why the media is talking about him, and thats why he has recieved so much media attention. And hey, guess what, thats why your posting your opinion on this forum.
I'd certainly like to hear these so called 'players' that don't respect him, because most players have publicly aligned themselves with him...and he is a decorated player at the club. Not all players get on within a footy club, but if you think most players wouldn't have him back at the club in a heartbeat....crack my friend, your on it. As for Judd leaving, I didn't realise you knew him personally.
Whether he is clean or not, we will soon find out with testing. Until then, I can't wait to see him play.
So many experts in antilag.com.
It's truly humbling to be in the presence of such authorities of not just football or meth addiction, but both topics.
LOL^
who will he be playing for?

would you date a girl that you knew had a drug addiction in the past?
i know i wouldnt.
the principal is the same.
same as cheating.
weak for it once = weak for it again
argue as much as you like, people dont change unless something drastic happens to change their outlook on life, and that rarely, if ever, happens.
the rumours are he's going to either brissy or sainters, right? i don't either team should get him. they're not in need of experiance, and that's all ben cousins is. who knows how he actually is, physically, after all this. sure, we've seen media footage of him running up and down a park but we can all do that. how strong physically is he? he's not a youngun anymore; he's an experianced campaigner and after almost a year out of it as well as destroying his hammy against Port in that prelim, i doubt he's still got it in the tank.
and then there's the team who hires them. they will be under the biggest microscope in recent time. pressure is on them, the players, senior coach and the medical staff there. as a coach, would you want that extra stress? fuck off you would. plenty of coachs would 'like' to have "ben cousins" in their team, but none of them will 'want' him.
someone said something about wayne carey and how he DID tarnish/stain his brilliant career. i totally agree. ben cousins should just focus more on his rehad. it just seems way too suss to get over this shit so easily.

I know wirrapunda wasn't really happy when Ben got in trouble with the law but surely there's more to it?
