V8 Supercar champion Mark Skaife has announced his retirement from the sport after more than 20 years of involvement.

The owner of the Toll Holden Racing team Tom Walkinshaw was full of praise for the retiring great who collected 41 career pole positions and finished on the podium a whopping 83 times.
"If he applies himself to his career, post motor racing, with the same passion and determination that he has shown so far, I am sure that he will continue to have great success," Tom Walkinshaw said of Skaife who has participated in over 200 races.
"I personally thank Mark for everything he has contributed to the Holden Racing Team."
Walkinshaw Racing chief executive Craig Wilson echoed those sentiments.
"Mark has had an enormous impact on the development of the V8 Supercar series and will be remembered for his contribution to the sport and the auto industry in this country for many years to come," Wilson said.
"We wish him well for the future and pay tribute to his record of achievement."
Skaife is currently in 13th position on the 2008 drivers' standings with 1480 points.
