Iinet is great but I would have a look at little known Amcom. Great value for money and customer service is satisfactory. I haven't dealt with their tech-support staff but i haven't heard anything bad. hope this helps.

You mean Amnet?

Been with them for a couple of years, they are very good...support is easy to get hold of, and you get ENGLISH speaking people that are actually in Perth.

I was having a concurrency issue which was actually caused by my monitored alarm, not the ISP, but they were very helpful in resetting my connection whenever the problem occured and I rang them. Never stayed on hold for more than 2 minutes.

actually they have call centers in NZ and South africa now. Apparently to "serve you better" by being in different time zones

level 1 amnet support is ok. If you have a more serious issue, their level 2 techs are fucking useless. Spent 3 days trying to get a problem sorted on a business grade ($560 per month) fiber connection and the soonest i've had a callback was 3 hours.

my recommendations
if your IT literate, IInet
If your not, westnet (better support)

They trade under Amcom Telecom. Their internet services are called Amnet.

I wouldn't recommend naked adsl with IINet. Myself and a few friends have had nub cakes come out and fuck up phone lines (creating a lot of noise on them) but for them to do that it took them +4 weeks. Really poor service. Not sure about their usual adsl plans.

You may/maynot find this helpful mate.

You see this shits me.

The government sells off part of Telstra, they have a control on 'Australian' phone infrastructure, yet aren't doing anything to upgrade it.

You have corporations such as Telecom and IInet wanting to do massively good things for the infrastructure, but with Telstra around, they have no chance.

As for my suggestion...

If you're technically minded, Go IInet (Customer service is a bit to be desired though)
If you're not - Westnet (You pay a bit more, but for the customer service, it's worth it)

Only bad thing about this, is IInet HAVE bought Westnet. There's all these rumours about IInet 'not' shutting Westnet down, and that Westnet will continue to trade on its own.

I'll call bullshit, it was just a period that was settled in the agreement/contract.

So which ever way you go if you go with Westnet/IInet then if you're with them for a considerable time, you'll end up with IInet.

As for Amnet - I've heard nothing bad about them, reliable service, good base support team, decent customer service and their prices and plans are great.

Westnet users are being migrated over to iiNet's own network slowly. Westnet will operate as a separate brand, but won't be shutdown.

3 friends are ex-scAmcom employees - I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Like everything, some of the stories are tragic.

iiNet ftw.

IInet sucks balls. Highly un-ethical internal practices.

that sucks dude, i've been with amnet for a while with no problems, was with iinet a couple years ago, but the monthly direct debit was coming out at randoms times, never at the same time of the month, would be 3rd, one month, then we'd go 6 weeks without a payment coming out, then 2 weeks later we'd have another one...
was really fucking annoying
and their support would only say that it wasn't doing it, when we had bank statements saying that it was so...

westnet if you want decent support. I have just moved away from them after 7 years due to the pricing structure of their adsl2 product.. iiborg for me.

iiBorg ftw. i mean iiNet.

Im on an old school Bliink plan that gave unlimited waix quota and when they dslammed the exchanges i went from 512k to 4mbps which was great.
Now i just grab all my tv eps, movies, 720p/1080p rips and games off private waix torrent sites so i dont go over my 12gb/12gb quota.

iiNet do have probably the best plans, followed closely by Amnet. Amnet offer a waix quota as well with their plans which may be handy to some people.

We are still in the stoneage in a way compared to the US/EU. Like someone said before hurry up and bring unlimited usage for fcks sake.

For ADSL 2+, Amcom FTW!!

Seems Broome & Stabbington are on par with one & other. I can't get 2+ either where I am (running off a rim).

For what I need in my net, Westnet have been pretty bloody good, and are cheapest prices. I'm on a 20/40 plan 1.5 down. I can't watch more than that in a month, so no need for more.
